Just bought a property with a badly rotted section of roof. The wood floor underneath is also half-rotten, and infested with what I'm guessing are termites. Any suggestions on the best way to go about eradicating them? Just when I thought I'd seen everything....

Not sure of your state and local laws but I can do my own pest control here. Unless it is something really wacky that is.

My suggestion would be to use termidor, or the generic version.

You want something that doesn't kill instantly so you can get them to take the poison back to the colony. I use other stuff to kill pests, but from what I have learned termidor is very good for them, as well as carpenter ants.

I was offered my first 100% financed property directly from a bank about seven years back. It had termite damage. I believe the treatments ran me about $900 in a low cost area that isn't prone to termites . --24.101.xxx.xxx

Robin,

Remove damage.

Scrape off the mud tunnels.

They live in the ground and build the tunnels to hide as they come up for dinner. Nest can be as deep as 30 feet and they can travel 60 feet horizontally. So treat your perimeter foundation, center posts, outbuildings, and warn the neighbors. “We had termites and you probably do too.”

( Because we’re sending them your way!)

DoMyOwn.com and Bugspray.com are your friend. Good education videos and supplies.

you could call an exterminator and ask for a spot treatment.

Years ago here in GA you could take a county gov't extension agency course that would allow you to buy chemicals the termite people us. I still have about 2.5 gals of it. 1oz per gallon- very strong.

Yes termites need togo to ground- cause they need water or moisture. as you say there is water damage--there feeding off that water. I for one would let a pro do this. you don't need an insurance coverage on this-- just spot treat. --99.103.xxx.xxx
