How many Ky landlords suffered damages from our Dec 11th tornados ?

I've been helping a friend that lives 4 blocks from my rental

do clean up. It was total destruction there while we were untouched. Some houses in that area are having to be torn down, electric slowly being restored the last few days and some areas still don't have the electric restored to their street at all its so bad.

Most of the houses are not fit to live in, no roof or roofs caved in, blown out windows lots of rain damage ect.

And of course the looters have come from all states to add insult to injury and take advantage of no lights and owners having to leave their homes to live in motels and apartments provided by different organizations. They robbed my friends house and the house next door to her with in 3 days after the tornado damage.

Janet,

A LL friend lives near but out of the tornado’s path. Her plumber got hit hard and could not find his 2! work trucks. Now where near his dismantled shop.

I didn't know about looters who prey on people who have had to evacuate! Looks like hiring security until one can remove important stuff is an unfortunate necessity. So sad. --98.115.xxx.xxx

I have a local Amish window builder that is always looking for work. I have a couple of commercial rentals within a 100 miles of there so I could get them out there if locals are not able to get the places repaired. --24.101.xxx.xxx

I hope they catch some of those looters. I would like to look into the eyes of someone who would loot a house that has been destroyed and take a victim's property. I want to see what that looks like. Is there somewhere to donate directly? --108.24.xx.xx

Ray thank you. The person iam helping is suppose to have a contractor who is negotiating with her insurance co to rebuild. She has cancer, no family and not been able to work in a year. Most of the work is being done in the neighborhood by charity and the churches recruiting volunteers. Even people with access to backhoes and Bobcats working at their own expense. It made us cry when these people came up bbn the driveways and said " how can I help YOU". --107.77.xxx.xxx

Also... they did catch a few looters. But not the ones who came during the night and cut the lock off my friends garage door we had just secured. They stole two nice tool boxes with her dads tools in it. He has long passed on. These looters have no heart. --107.77.xxx.xxx

Thank you Jim from OH. I am going to try to volunteer at our tornado help center they set up in the mall processing information from people who need different kinds of help.

I am still physically helping the one cancer/ heart patient I have been helping clean up her yard. Snow on the ground here now, very cold also so we're waiting for better weather to do the outside stuff. Tornado happened Dec 11th and electric was just restored to that one street just this week.

There was so much destruction. Prayers welcomed for this city. --75.23.xxx.xxx

Friday I went back over to the tornado victims house who I have been helping. There were more volunteers from a church in from Erlanger, Ky who had gotten on a church bus and rode several hours to get to our city just to help clean up these yards that still have limbs, nails, 2x4's, roof shingles, bricks... and put it in huge piles in the alley way so Fema can send their trucks to remove it.

It is just so heart warming to know there are still so many caring people out there willing to travel so far to come help strangers they don't know. I've enjoyed talking to all of them. --75.23.xxx.xxx

I basically lost two fourplexes, luckily all tenants survived. Now I'm in the process of waiting and dealing with insurance company headaches and limited subcontractors/supplies. Alot of people are still complaining that FEMA denied their claims or that they are having hard time just getting by while others seem to be in better shape than they were before the tornadoes. Yesterday, I happened to notice one of my subcontractor's people had a wrought iron handrail in the back of his truck. Husband called the boss who said he'd take it and put it on property and that it was laying in side yard (husband said he's been there multiple times as have I and there was no handrail in side yard). Gotta watch out for the alligators as my Dad used to say. --216.20.xxx.xx
