Kohler toilet tank flush valve " tower " is breaking down and black dust like debris is clinging to bowl porcelain below water line.
This is the three inch high volume tank.
1. Any one else experiencing this problem
2. If I swap out this OEM flush valve assembly with the old fashioned generic one,...will it fit. ? .? --172.250.xx.xxx |

Sounds like you just need to change out the seal on the flush valve. Very fast and easy to do. It is most likely dry rotting from age. Rubber deteriorates with time. --73.120.xx.xxx |

What 6X6 said. The gasket is readily available; the entire tower is generally not.
And yes, a standard 3 inch flapper will fit just fine if you change out the whole seat and standpipe. --158.115.xxx.xxx |

Low flush toilets use a 3 inch flapper assembly as water is more forceful when flapper is open. Consider a few different plumbing supply stores who probably stock parts for toilets. Kohler will know who sells parts. --99.236.xxx.xxx |

The easiest way to fix is use the original parts where contact Kohler to get part number along with places that sell part. OEM parts are the most reliable. Cut and fit other parts is always difficult. Some places that Kohler products may have parts. --99.236.xxx.xxx |
