State Specific Question About: CALIFORNIA (CA)
My daughter just turned 18 a month ago tomorrow and I want her to move out. Shes been nothing but a problem and wont go to school. What recourse do I have, aside from giving her a 30 day notice? Iwas told that I can file a civil harrassment suit to expedite the eviction. If that is not granted, what else can I do?
Thanks for any insight. --98.35.xx.xx |

In Pa, you open the door and kick them out. In CA, you probably have to deed the house over to her, move out yourself and then provide lawn maintenance for a year. Your head of household. If your kid is a bum, kick them out. Pack her cr@p and throw it in the yard. --24.152.xxx.xx |

There once was a very senior member of this forum who had a set of rules for LL'S.
Rule #1 was: "The landlord is in charge, the tenant is not".
Change the first word to: 'parent' and the 7th is child'.
I like the reply from NE (PA)

Has she ever paid you rent? If so, then she has renters rights.

Hypothetical nonsense vs reality. If my own kid becomes a bum, he’s out. Rent or no rent. Judge or no judge. --24.152.xxx.xx |

I think you have much bigger problems than a landlord tenant forum can assist you with. Look at the entire, big picture of both your lives before you focus on just the landlord/tenant (living) issues. You are not a landlord, you are a parent ... world of difference .... even if she needs to go at this point in time.

I understand the kid is a bum.
I would bit my lip until the kid is out of school - even if it is hard for you.
As for me, my parents got a great deal smarter from the time I was a teenager to the time I was 22.
I blame part of that on how schools test. If only life's issues were a yes /no, true/false or a matching testing. Nope, instead it is essay with various shades of gray mixed in.
I am glad that you acknowledge has problems. She is 18......did you have issues at age 18?
Booting the kid out of the house, basically forcing them to drop out of school - that is life changing events. What type of opportunity are you affording them with?
I am sadden that things are the way that they are at your home. I hope that all parties can sit down and talk.
I am a retired Senior Chief - I can't tell you the number of kids that I inherited with broken back grounds. Most of them learn and are trainable. Me - I was scared of my parents when I was about that age. They made it clear - they brought me into the world and they can take me out. --24.101.xxx.xxx |
