I have a wall with peeling paint. It is scrapped as good as we can get. There are still cracks. I need a product to paint on before skim coating. I was going to use Sherwin Williams extreme bond primer but they cannot get it. I am looking for something that will hold the old paint in place and provide a good surface for mud to bond too.

I am also considering a really thick self leveling paint that might cover it good enough for a rental.

Ideas?

Valspar Bonding primer is what I have used in similar applications. Lowes sells it. --71.207.xxx.x

Thanks guys! GuardZ is what the mud guy suggested, I never heard of it and SW did not recognize it when I said the name so I figured the mud guy was wrong! --76.189.xxx.xxx

guard seals problem walls and preps for wallpaper. if you want to bond to new compound use plaster weld. either should work. --72.10.xxx.xx
