For those that have internet connected to TV and do streaming, can you avoid the pauses and buffering when streaming by using wireless connection, or do you need to plug in ethernet connection in back of TV to get good result??

Mine will still buffer sometimes and I have it plugged in directly. I can deal-a lot less expensive than cable. --73.230.xxx.xx

Streaming is way better than cable. We live in the sticks and hardly have any issues with connectivity. Plus most channels have zero news or commercials. --24.152.xxx.xx

We have a rotating roof top antenna that allows us over the air access to 60+ New England area TV stations. Between the antenna & Amazon Prime Fire TV we manage to be able to waste (g) plenty of hours in front of that idiot box. --71.174.xx.xxx

We gave up on cable at the condo, only here a couple times a month. We kept the land line (I know, I'm just old timey & can hear better on it) and the internet. So our son/& wife shared their subscription of You Tube tv & Netflix, we are really enjoying it. Watched an episode of Downton Abbey last night.

When we were here last trip it was buffering terribly, but that was right before an upgrade offer of better speeds! ?? Me thinks that was kind of wonky. We didn't bite, it seems fine this trip. --47.133.xxx.xxx

Allym,

I was not aware Mike Lin dell has a TV show. When did it first appear??

Is it just a TV show or has he added an entire network to his empire these days??

Is there some maximum distance the ethernet cable can run from router to TV before I would see a problem.

I know 5 feet is no problem but can I go 50 feet??

Wifi is always slower than being directly plugged into the router with cat 6 cable i also static my ip addresses for my roku and my video server (synology NAS). For security I disable the guest and default administrative acct. I also use a non standard port (default is 5000) --72.231.xxx.xx

In theory attenuation occurs at 100 meters. Your better off adding an extender and plugging in a cat 6 into that extender for far away places. We have a biz acct (not fiber) 500 down and 100 up. I have four extenders for various purposes including security cams and stand by generator. --72.231.xxx.xx

The internet speed is too slow for streaming where if a phone line used for internet connection then there will be buffering. If there internet with fiber optic then buffering is no longer a issue. It is easy to install free to air antenna outside with a amplifier where should get a lot of local channels. The higher the antenna the more stations can be picked up. Find out what the internet speed is where contact internet provider. If no improvements can be made then consider options. --99.236.xxx.xxx

Ethernet cable better than wifi, but both are better than most internet speeds except for fiber so internet connection is bottleneck no matter what. Also simultaneous streams clog bandwith --108.69.xxx.xxx
