Any suggestions for a good email provider to use? I just got an email from Gmail informing me that starting the 8th, I will have to use a phone app to open my account.

I don't use a smart phone. I've got a flip phone that makes phone calls and doesn't do any other tricks. If I'm not going to be able to open my Gmail account, I need to switch providers before the 8th so I am not locked out of the information that I have stored on gmail. --76.178.xxx.xxx

There are plenty of other choices.

If you believe ANY of them are secure, (which,in my opinion, is debatable), you might check out proton mail. They seem to be ok. --75.7.xx.xx

Thanks for the heads up. My MIL is elderly and has Gmail, but no Smartphone. I will look into that! --96.227.xxx.xxx

They will be doing 2-step verification which is happening everywhere these days. When you first go to open Gmail, it will either text or voice mail you a code to get in. Once you've entered that code on that computer device, you won't have to enter it again unless your IP changes or something.

You WILL still be able to use gmail on the computer. --50.82.xxx.xxx

I have used Yahoo Mail for years with no problems. The free email service I use has a slight amount of advertisement. No problem for me.

Almost all of the email work I do is done on my PC. I don't do any thing fancy just mostly send/receive store files. I could upgrade for a fee, but I just don't need it.

Also I can send/receive emails from my iphone. Phone and PC is synchronized so any changes on the PC shows up on the phone or vice versa. Not sure if the flip phone has the synchronization feature.

Hope this helps --184.20.xxx.xx

I have Yahoo email as well. I don't think it's a bad option if you want a free account. --72.188.xxx.xxx

I have Gmail on computer and periodically they ask me to verify it's me and they ask for my password. I only have a flip phone also. After being used to a phone that you can swipe it's hard to get used to, but I don't want a smartphone. We get so many crank calls, I think trying to get info off our phones. I wouldn't want to link a smartphone to my computer for safety reasons.

With that said, I use google voice as one of my phone numbers. I use it for replies to my rental ads and....all calls go to voicemail. --176.113.xx.xxx

Smoke,

I do recommend making the change to a smart phone. They will increase your productivity and are easy to learn.

I understand that it can be overwhelming, but you deserve it - you a re a LL --24.101.xxx.xxx

I agree with Ray-n-PA on switching to the smart phone. At some point the old flip phones will not be supported anymore. The smart phones aren't hard to learn to use. They are designed to be intuitive to learn. Look at all the low IQ types glued to them 24/7. --72.188.xxx.xxx

@Dee Ann

The spam calls are very annoying but there's a way to silence any calls from numbers not on your contact list. At least there is on Android. Those calls still come in but there is no ring. If you're expecting a call from a number that's not in your contacts just turn off that setting temporarily. --72.188.xxx.xxx

Our 6 yr old grandson navigates the smart phone as good as pops - yes he's really smart but frankly, these phones are not that hard - they are going to help you in many ways but you have to want to growup a bit here. If you're determined to stay stuck with your flip phone then you're definitely stuck in your thinking. Find a support group for that problem.

Get with the program. They do more than just make calls in case you didn't know it. --73.184.xxx.xxx
