As unbelieveable as this sounds, researchers have developed a type of living ink that can be used to print living materials. In their paper published in the journal Nature Communications it talks about this.
Perhaps, in the next few years, we will have homes that repair themselves.
Engineering could be added to the microbes to push them to produce carbon copies of themselves—the ink could literally be grown in a jar. They also state that it appears possible that the technique could be used to print renewable building materials that would not only grow but could self heal—a possible approach to building self-sustaining homes.
If true, overpriced handymen might become obsolete:)

Nice thought, and I saw your smiley face at the end so I know you see it as much of a ha ha as I do.
When do we all get the jet packs we were promised back in the 1980s? That lunar colony from the 1990s up and running yet?
Tech has been promising a lot of things. John Maynard Keynes, the famous big Govt spending economist, said that with the rate of technological advances in the early 20th century, that by today we would all be working 15 hours/week, maximum.
Well, okay.
Self-healing houses would be amazing. It would transform the world. Would land lord's still be needed, since one of the major negatives to homeownership is having to battle with home maintenance? No more maintenance = more homeowners, probably.
Like most earth-shattering predicted innovations....I'll wait and see. If it comes, awesome. If not, I know how to deal with it "as is."

Skeptical. Nothing is tenant proof. tenants are too clever about finding ways to break and destroy things. --76.178.xxx.xxx |

Copy from article.., The researchers believe that their concept suggests that producing such inks could be a self-creating proposition. Engineering could be added to the microbes to push them to produce carbon copies of themselves—the ink could literally be grown in a jar. They also state that it appears possible that the technique could be used to print renewable building materials that would not only grow but could self heal—a possible approach to building self-sustaining homes here on Earth, or on the moon or on Mars --172.58.xxx.xx |
