Salvation Army is a church and I never donate to any church that I don't belong to, (with the exception of St Vinnie's thrift store)

I'm not seeing any of this "great good" that the Salvation Army is doing. At least with St Vinnies, what they raise goes to locals in need and they aren't paying high priced "administration", they are volunteers working there.

All I'm seeing the SA do is to collect free stuff to sell and collect donations and they underpay a couple of handicapped people below minimum wage. They make enough money to build some really nice stores and headquarters. I'm not interested in helping them build some fancy buildings for their own use or to help pay for expensive administrators. --76.178.xxx.xxx

One of the apartment buildings was next door to the Salvation Army which in no way was a fancy building where food was donated along with clothing. Salvation Army has store here in town where the house is. Every year a few loonies are dropped in the Salvation Army container. Have never seen fancy buildings where as a charity the Salvation Army does help people. Like any organization there is always people at the top. Here there are no food stamps where only charities help people get food. Some of charities give out winter coats which are essential here in the winter. There is universal medical care here no matter if you are rich or not well off medical care will be provided. Some think this is a Socialist country where compared to Scandinavian countries so or compared to Europe not so where some provinces have progressive Conservative governments like Ontario. The last federal election the Liberals wound with the same minority government like before the election where the Conservatives are the main opposition. Finally when clothing was left when people move out that was donated to the Salvation Army along what was usable was donated as well rather then taking to the dump or putting in dumpster. --99.236.xxx.xxx

I did go to the website of The Salvation Army (TSA) and read TSA's Response to False Claims on the Topic of Racism. TSA's International Positional Statement on Racism linked there was published in 2017.

In 2018, there was a new sheriff in town. Brian Peddle, became the 21st General, CEO and international leader of The Salvation Army on August 3, 2018. It was under Gen. Peddle's tutelage that new training, created through TSA's International Social Justice Commission, was disseminated internally to field officers and territorial commanders. The "voluntary" resource guide “Let’s Talk About Racism,” which has since become a focus of controversy, was created by TSA's Social Justice Commission. Due to blowback, the "Let’s Talk About Racism" resource has now been withdrawn for review (which withdrawal has been acknowledged in TSA link posted above). Clearly, TSA is trying to walk it back.

After reading the resource, in my opinion it is CRT training material and their "courageous conversations" are part of the woke movement. While I believe that historically, TSA has done many good works, that was then, this is now. Personally, I will not be donating to any organization embracing this woke ideology. --73.40.xxx.xx

Not to steal Bill's (NC) thunder but I researched this and sadly there is some truth to the allegation. I always knew the SA to be non-political and efficient with their funds. Earlier this year the SA internally released 2 memos about this topic, referred to in the Blaze story pasted below. If you go to the Blaze com you can find the story and click the links - but one of them was apparently removed since last week. Now the SA is recanting somewhat.

Here's the story:

Salvation Army responds to critics of woke messaging, backpedals by withdrawing anti-ra cism guide for 'appropriate review'

Chris Enloe 4-5 minutes

The Salvation Army published a lengthy response late last week after numerous reports indicated the Christian charity organization had embraced wo ke corporate messaging.

What is the background?

The controversy surrounds two internal Salvation Army documents, a guidebook titled "Let's Talk About Rac ism" and another called the "Study Guide on Rac ism."

The National Review reported:

In a guidebook titled "Let's Talk About Raci sm," the organization calls Christians to reflect on and rectify their contributions to the social inequities and prejudicial systems that have harmed minorities. Citing its "International Position Statement on Rac ism," the organization writes that it "acknowledges with regret, that Salvationists have sometimes shared in the sins of racism and conformed to economic, organisational and social pressures that perpetuate racism."

An accompanying document created by the Salvation Army's International Social Justice Commission, called the "Study Guide on Rac ism," claims that white people are responsible for "unconscious bias," an idea promulgated by critical-ra ce-theory advocate Ibr am X. Ke ndi. Ke ndi argues that white people's legacy of rac ism is irredeemable, and that the only remedy is reverse discri mination as a matter of retributive justice to level the societal playing field.

Message:

CONTINUED: In the "Let's Talk About Rac ism" document, the Salvation Army implores whi te donors to "lament, repent and apologize for biases or rac .ist ideologies held and actions committed," and urges them to adopt "a posture of ... anti-rac ism," another moniker made famous by Kendi.

"In the absence of making anti-rac ist choices, we (un) consciously uphold aspects of White supr emacy, White-dominant culture, and unequal institutions and society," the document states.

Meanwhile, the "Study Guide on Rac ism" states that white people are guilty "unconscious bias" and "unwittingly perpetuate rac ial division," and declares that, "We must stop denying the existence of individual and systemic/institutional rac ism. They exist, and are still at work to keep White Americans in power."

TheBlaze further reported:

In the guide, the Salvation Army makes use of a litany of wo ke terms to articulate their message, including "anti-rac ist," "colonizer," "domestic terrorism," "fasc ism," "institutional rac ism," "microaggressions," "systemic rac ism," and "white ness."

As TheBlaze noted, the wo ke messaging forced some Christians to stop donating to the organization.

What did the Salvation Army say?

The Salvation Army released a statement flatly denying accusations the Christian organization is now peddling ideals of critical ra ce theory and other wo ke messaging.

"[S]ome individuals and groups have recently attempted to mislabel our organization to serve their own agendas. They have claimed that we believe our donors should apologize for their skin color, that The Salvation Army believes America is an inherently rac ist society, and that we have abandoned our Christian faith for one ideology or another," the statement explained.

"Those claims are simply false, and they distort the very goal of our work," the statement added.

Responding to the core of the criticism — the "Let's Talk About Rac ism" study guide — the Salvation Army claimed it was issued to members as a "voluntary resource."

But despite claiming critics of the study guide "have chosen to ignore" attempts by the Salvation Army to provide "accurate information" about the guide, the statement said the Salvation Army has "now withdrawn the guide for appropriate review."

The statement, however, did not specify which specific parts of the study guide require clarification, nor did the statement address the "Study Guide on Rac ism."
