CPI (by 6x6 [TN]) Posted on: Nov 24, 2021 1:53 PM

Would someone explain the CPI ( Consumer Price Index ) in laymen's terms?

I don't understand how the CPI works. How are they able to say that the inflation rate is 6.2% when it is clearly way above that? I don't know of anything that has just went up 6.2%. I guess the government is trying to snowball people.

Thank you for your time --73.120.xx.xxx

Yes, 6x6 the government is lying about inflation. My guess would be closer to 10% to 12% . shooting from my hip, by the way. --173.47.xxx.xxx

If I recall correctly one way the government plays with the numbers is by adjusting value of an item to account for new features. For example, a camera, TV, or cell phone used to cost extra X dollars to get certain features. But now those same features are standard, so even the Government says the item got cheaper. This deflation of certain items lowers the overall inflation.

The CPI is rigged by the govt to show what they want. The reason it's 6.3 or whatever is that so many people know what the real numbers are that they cannot say its 1 or 2 percent.

You want to see the real numbers, look at the gas pump- last year here 1.85 now 3.69 Food -hamburger now 6.00, steaks $18-23 per pound, maybe only $12 a pound for some.Canned vegetables up 30 percent. I can go on but why? Price of cars? Price of houses?

It will get worse. --75.7.xx.xx

I have been told they will remove an item from the basket of goods used to measure inflation and replace it with something else that hasnt gone up in price --72.231.xxx.xxx

Shadowstats measures inflation by the 1980 standard and the 1990 standard - 15 percent inflation by the 1980 standard the government used then. About 10 percent by the 1990 standard. People who own rentals are basically protected from inflation if there is no rent control in their area. --185.236.xxx.xxx

While the CPI is lower where history here that if the price of fuel goes up then everything else goes up as the cost of fuel from the farm to the grocery store is effected. Some fresh food such as vegetables, oranges, bananas, peaches are not grown here where the price is going up. Often when go to buy at the hardware store a lot of items are costing more. The price of milk goes up in January along other food items where there is expected a large increase in the price of meat. In town here the price for a litre of gasoline in $1.42/9 where if multiplied by 3.78 to convert to a Us gallon where the imperial gallon is no longer used here. --99.236.xxx.xxx

They are allowed to substitute products as long as the item is comparable. If the price steak increases, then they will swap that out for hamburger. Both items are food items of protein. The entire system though is rigged against the citizen. --24.101.xxx.xxx
