So last week a lock jammed at the unit and the tenant had blocked every single entrance with under the door knob locks. So we forced one open and got in. Front door old mortise lock had jammed. Except today when the locksmith came I found that tenants had pushed a button on the door edge that jammed the auxiliary latch. So this guy's website says he fixes and removes mortise locks which this is. Except it was cold today and he refused. He put a screw into one of those little buttons on the edge so no one can push it but I still have a bad lock that can jam. Says he will fix it when it's warm in the spring. Charged me a hundred bucks. Then his tire went flat at my curb. Karma. He had a can of tire fix and there is a great tire place a few blocks over that can have him out in 20 minutes with a new rim that is now bent.
I went to the hardware store to look at plates for the edge of a door in case I can watch a video on how to remove it. Didn't see a fit but the woman at the desk says her dad is a locksmith and he owns the store. He will tell me what to do tomorrow hopefully. --108.24.xx.xx |

Spoke to one of the brothers who own the hardware store. He can remove the mortise lock and will do it. Wants to see photo which I will take and send to his email. He and his brother and father have been helping me with those apartments for 30 years by telling me how to fix little things here and there. It would have been more difficult without them. Their dad opened the store in a house maybe 75 years ago. --108.24.xx.xx |
