I would not worry about it.

Per something I read, the virus does not live on non living surfaces more than a couple minutes.

Of course, there will undoubtedly be other sources that say 100 percent different. --75.7.xx.xx

Caryl,

I'm with Nicole. Quarantine does not mean SICK. My grandkids are often sent home to "quarantine" from daycare for a week because one of their teachers MIGHT have covid.

Plays havoc on adult work schedules.

If you are concerned, unlock the door and stay outside.

BRAD

How long should I stay in quarantine after exposure to COVID-19?

Quarantine means staying home for 14 days after you are exposed to someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19. This is because you can be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 but may not show symptoms for up to 14 days. Even though you may not show symptoms, you can still spread the virus.

I would NOT expose or show the rental. And the tenant should be staying home, not be gone.

My brothers girl friend spent the day with him on Veterans day, going for free meals, etc.

That day cost her her life.

She was hospitalized last Wed. transferred to ICU on Fri. passed away on Sat. (yesterday)

If I was a prospective tenant and a LL showed me a rental unit knowing what you know I personally would be madder than heck. Is money that important to put not only your life but anthers in jeopardy.

This is exactly why we are in the situation we are in. Not enough people are taking Covid serious enough. --67.22.x.xx

I should have quarantined myself twice, that I am aware of. I was in close proximity with two who definitely had it. Both were asymptomatic. One was tested at work when someone else turned up positive. The other when admitted to the hospital for a totally unrelated issue. I was supposed to self-quarantine both times for 10 days. I did not. I asked for a test and could not get one at a medical facility since I had no symptoms. I could have gone and gotten one at the drug store or one of the local ready care type places where the results were 50% accurate. I declined. I did not get sick.

I should have put my life on hold for those 20 days why? Yes, I feel terrible for P.B.'s family. For all the other families too. BUT, people get sick. And as we've seen, some people die. But shut lives and businesses down on a possibility of maybe, possibly, perhaps carrying or not carrying the virus? Sorry, not going to happen here. --98.237.xxx.xx

I have been helping some kittens for 2 months. Now I find out one has round worms and it's a species that will get into the human body and not reach worm stage but the young filariae will migrate through the human body and cause joint swelling, liver pain, headaches and can appear in the eyes. I asked the vet yesterday which species it was. She was not going to volunteer the information. Can you imagine that?Have to call my doctor on Monday to see if I can get that worm medication that begins with Iv and you can't type in because the post will be pulled. There's a documentary about it. Would have ended pandemic in two months. --108.24.xx.xx

Plenty and P.B.

Thank you for the reminder to everyone to show respect to the prospective tenant, even if you yourself are a skeptic. Business is built on trust. Word gets around as to how reckless you are with people, whether the matter concerns the virus or some other matter. That can leave you with slimmer pickings for filling future vacancies or for other business opportunities.

Plenty,

You raised a good point about Caryl being her own best friend. You gave good reminders to have Plan B alternatives, such as gathering a list, and being able to share photos.

Caryl,

You can also be your own best friend in the future and create a good video tour the next time it is empty. Right now, you can also ask the current tenant to create a video tour if you have insufficient pictures.

Your tenant being away from her home on Friday does not mean that she is not quarantining, or otherwise staying away from people. She sounds both resourceful and conscientious, because she asked you to disinfect. I am assuming that you meant that she plans to be out all day Friday, 11/26, which is several days from now. She may well be ending her quarantine around that time, or otherwise expects to have verified or double-checked test results by Friday.

P.B.,

My condolences for the loss of your brother's loved one.

Nicole,

I am glad you did not get sick. I hope that you did not get anyone else sick. A very short hospital stay for non-COVID issues easily costs $50,000. COVID hospital bills are much higher. I would be so peeved if I suspected someone was careless with either my finances or my health in that way. I certainly would not be doing business with them again.

I personally have found ways to either work remotely or hire out when either quarantining or waiting for test results. If I encounter a situation where I cannot temporarily pivot for a potential quarantine period, it tells me that I have a big hole in my system (i.e. no automation, no backup, no ability to hire an errand person on craigslist, no ability to delegate someone for a closing, and so on and so on). This forum has been a great resource for identifying those tools.

Anyone else,

Just nipping this in the bud ... I am not a COVID sheep or quaking in my home in fear and worry. I just have learned to mostly roll with the punches.

Here’s an idea, call your insurance and see if they cover quarantine on your buildings. Mine does. If you had a tenant right now like you do who is actually causing you financial damages, call the state and see if you can get them to force quarantine on your entire building and turn it over to insurance. --24.152.xxx.xx

And Roger puts the landlord right back into the territory he doesn’t belong in. If people want to play the stupid Covid game, then play it for all it’s worth. Like I just said, check with your insurance. If they cover quarantine call the state health department and have them red tag the building and force quarantine on it. If they want us to believe that this is the “worst thing” that has ever happened in the history of mankind, then make them put their money where their mouth is. And if the state is not going to come out and do that in the situation, then I wouldn’t do anything as far as compliance goes. Care as much as the state does when it benefits you. If the state refuses to come out and lock your building down, then get that freaking unit rented ASAP. Good Lord, what is this country going to do when something really bad actually happens to us? --24.152.xxx.xx
