I found I have to redo a damaged kitchen floor that has peel and stick or glued down small vinyl squares on it. We plan to go over it and don’t want to use anything too thick due to the transitions.

I’d prefer something easy like the Allure grip strip which we have been happy with. Do they make this is a tile look pattern (only have used the wood look) ? I thought I’d seen it before but I know a lot of the Allure has been replaced with different products now.

Can anyone recommend an easy to install vinyl plank type flooring with a tile look pattern?

I don't know if you can even find it anymore, but I have previously used Allure Sedona (I think was the name) a grayish tile look. the pieces were wider & shorter than the wood allure, and harder to camouflage the seams. Didn't really like it.

Consider looking at good quality vinyl sheet. Some of it these days is quite thick and really good-looking.

Just make sure to use embossing leveler before installing a sheet. --68.229.xxx.xxx

I had some kitchens like that. Pros will nail down luan over that tile and just add new self stick or glue plus self stick. If you get a thicker tile you can probably degrease the floor and put the self stick right over that existing tile but make sure edges don't end up in the same place. Get the largest, thickest self stick that you can. --108.24.xx.xx

The Allure Sedona was a good product but is hard to find and is usually special order. The last order came with about half the tile broken in some aspect, but the contractor was able to get enough good pieces to do the front entrance and the bathroom.

The last kitchen floor we did we went to a flooring specialty company and we picked a tile pattern that was 1'x2' laminate. The laminate has a self stick material on the entire bottom of the tile and is not interlocking. So if one tile is damaged, you can just heat that tile and lift is out and replace it with a spare tile. I had to remove all the old wax from the old linoleum and the contractor put down a special leveling compound that also made for a cleaner surface for the new laminate tile to stick to. The floor turned out real nice and I am just now trying to rent the property. --99.165.xx.xxx

Sounds like a good idea if you can find the sticky strip product. Otherwise what about rolled vinyl? It's cheap and it will last a few tenants but yes the under squares may show thru. It's a rental. --172.58.xxx.x

LisaFL,

We used a TON of Sedona.

We are now using 15x15 stick on vinyl tiles that look like marble. Goes down fast and easy to cut. Mommas LOVE the look with gray walls and white trim.

Thanks for reminding me of the name of the Allure that looks like tile. Ultimately I think we will go with tiling the kitchen floor as tile hold up better than vinyl and we can tile over the existing floor. It’s more work but much cheaper and more practical for a rental. --75.89.xxx.xxx

That being said:

Brad

Can you explain in more detail what you are using? What brand of 15x15 stick on tile?

How has it held up? Why do you prefer it over tile (is it due to the subfloor, ease of replacing a piece, ease of installation, ease of cleaning, durability, etc..) ?

I've used Sedona and like it. it is stiffer than the wood version. I had my eye on stone look lvp, but not much was available even on special order. I used lowes smartcore click lock floor and hated it. I couldn't get the short edge and row edge locked in place together at the same time. I wound up putting a row together and then locking it in at once.

Small Potatoes: i agree on the Lowe's smartcore. Bought a bunch on sale, enough for two large rooms and had a hell of a time installing it, even though it was going over level and intact old rubber/asphalt square tiles. I eventually figured out to stick together entire row, like you did, and then use small pieces of duct tap to keep the short ends clicked and aligned as I snapped in the long edge of the whole row. Hated the tiny interlock profile. Still have over 200 square feet of the stuff that I am dreading using.

I started using Allure 20 years ago when it was peel and stick at first. Some of it did not hold up well over time, especially in bathrooms, where the pieces of the wood look "crept" and separated on the short end connections, which were just butted and not interlocked. left ugly gaps. --67.186.xx.xxx
