On another thread, Brad 20,000 mentioned about using the UPS store as his mailing address.

How do you use the UPS store as your mailing address?

Is it like setting up a PO Box, I have never done that either?

Is there a cost to do this, if so, how much?

6x6,

I'm not Brad :-) , but we do have a "street" physical address with a local UPS store. The store has mailboxes just like a post office. Let's say your UPS mailbox number is 4, then your street address would be the address of the UPS store with your mailbox number. 123 Mainstreet #4, Anytown, USA, zip code.

In my town it was $275 for a year.

The reason we needed one is that when you create and register an LLC in Texas you are required to give a physical address and we didn't want to list our home address and we don't have an office.

We have since asked our CPA if we could use her address and she agreed. Another suggestion is to use your attorney's address (with their permission, of course!).

We never receive any mail at that UPS store as we have never given anyone that address except for the Comptroller's Office, so that was an easy decision to stop that expense.

All the best!

Renne

For a POBox at the post office. Just go up to the counter and ask. I think we pay $125 a year for the POBox. --172.58.xxx.xxx

I use a p.o. box at the u.s. post office for some things.

Some u.s. post offices offer a feature that I have never used but I can use that post office street address along with my p o box number to receive packages from fedex or anyone that requires a physical address because they will not deliver to p o box.

I do not know if I can use that feature to get regular letters, it might only be for packages.

I maintain a P.O. Box in addition to my physical office. My thought, 12 years ago, was that if I moved my physical office, my mail would continue uninterrupted to the P.O. Box.

Twelve years later, I have not moved, and this has been an unnecessary expense. And most of my mail nowadays comes in via computer as email anyway!

Unlike Renne, I get snail-mail from my Secretary of State and various licensing boards and tax boards. Some of these go to the PO Box, but some (such as a bill for personal property taxes on my furniture and office equipment) come to the physical office address. Some of the gov't entities demand a physical address, and I don't try to hide it; in fact, I advertise it!

The one near me used to give out a key to people who rented the boxes to go into the store anytime. Not sure I would want strangers messing with something possibly left outside the box due to it's size. I got one at the little post office nearby and they will put a note inside if you have something larger. Then you get it at the desk. --108.24.xx.xx

In NC, your LLC needs to be able to physically receive notices and service for lawsuits, etc. So I pay an office in Raleigh to act as my agent. That's all they do, act as receiving agents for LLCs. $125 a year. I don't think they've ever received anything for us, but if they do, they would scan and email it as well as send it to our physical address. --108.4.x.xxx

Ally, nothing is left outside your box. there is a big gate that separates the boxes from the rest of the store and that is pulled down & locked when the store is closed. If you receive something that won't fit into the box, they put a note and you must go in during store hours to pick it up. --98.237.xxx.xx
