I get a lot of postcards in the mail wanting to buy my house. Sometimes they have pictures of the property on them. I have noticed recently, that the ones with pictures, say that the picture was gotten from Google and that they have not driven by.

This leads me to believe that there may have been some lawsuits over this. What do you think?

Thank you for your time --73.120.xx.xxx

Ray, I am not saying that I mind that my house picture or others are online but it appears to me that some people may have complained to the sender, thinking that they were driving by there homes and taking pictures ( maybe in some cases they have ). So, I am just wondering if maybe they had been sued or had a lot of complaints over the pictures because of the statement made on the card.

6x6: you are overthinking this. if pic was from google maps then yes they drove by. I think some vultures are taking pix as “inducement” to talk to them. I had same with a pic of my home. --107.77.xxx.xx

Go into Google Chrome, type in google images then the address.

Very easy except when I did my own home a different one showed up (correct address though). Better looking than mine. --73.108.xxx.xxx

Let me try and rephrase it.

Have any of you noticed, on the post cards, the phrase

"We got the picture off Google. We have NOT driven by" ?

They even boldened the word not and underlined it.

Do you think they were sued? --73.120.xx.xxx

I am flummoxed. any drive by photo is covered by public protection. eg: if I took a pic of you walking down the street there is nothing you can claim is “private”. don’t be worrying. --107.77.xxx.xx

People just think it is creepy and it scares them that someone drove by and took a picture so they just tell them it came from google which it probably did to calm them down. I mail quite a few letters and every now and then someone calls and goes crazy yelling at me,i even had the cops call me because the letter scared someone so bad --72.231.xxx.xxx

I get them all the time especially at tax time I think Google will sue or issue a cease-and-desist letter to individual or corporations for using there copy right materials without permission . They should have google permission be for printing Google street view. --99.111.xx.xxx

I receive those post cards. I just think it's because people think it's creepy that a prospective buyer might be stalking the house. May have walked in the yard and around back. --174.198.xxx.xx

I will say the first one of these picture postcard set off an alarm in me. However our assessor has the same picture and I assumed all my mailing information and pic came from my state assessor's sight. --172.58.xxx.xx

6X6 The cops asked for my address and date of birth,i told him fine but i do realize you are running my record with that info which he denied but no other reason to ask for it.I explained that i mail hundreds of those letters and if she didnt want to sell i would just remove her from my list, they were fine with that, not like they could have done anything about it if i refused.I assume having no criminal record helped my case also --72.231.xxx.xxx

Mine was the very worst view they could get. We had been quite busy when the Googlecar was taking photos-things in the yard needed a very good grooming.

LLC

Made me get my butt in gear and start trimming trees, pulling some bushes that were getting larger than expected.

As an incentive to sell my house, that picture was effective. As older persons, that view showed how much maintenance wasn’t getting done on our large yard. That ONE postcard got me rethinking my landscape plan for my yard to something simpler, easier to maintain as we go into our senior years.

I have heard that SOME people have attempted to sue over some of the more invasive feeling marketing methods, but , from what I have heard, nothing has ever come from those attempts. As others said, the property can be photographed from a public right of way. As far as Google minding if someone uses their images for real estate marketing, I doubt Google would mind. In my opinion, Google probably encourages use of those images. Makes their site more used, more click-traffic.

The wording on the post card sounds , to me, that the sending is letting recipients of those postcards know that sender DID NOT go walking around the space.

I wouldn’t ever be comfortable sending these postcards/letters/calls. I imagine those who do get a lot of angry responses. Just not for me. --184.55.xxx.xxx

I just googled mine, just for kicks. All wrong. I saw my neighbor's, I saw old houses that no longer there, I saw the inside of one of our studios - but no pics of my actual house. --108.4.x.xxx

I learned recently that you can blur certain things on Google streetview. I've done it to cover up house numbers. Get streetview up for your property, click the three vertical dots on the toolbar, then choose "Report a Problem". Select the option to blur (home, license plate, face...) and drag the red box over what you want to obscure. Then choose "submit". --98.114.xxx.xxx

I have a different thought. They can drive around (or pay someone to drive around), pull over (hopefully it's not a busy road with no berm), hopefully no rain or snow, take a photo, somehow upload it with the correct address and generate a post card or letter to be mailed.

Or they can sit home in the comfort of their jammies and have a computer program generate it all from a tax list, landlord list, municipality rental listing, etc. --98.237.xxx.xx
