To file a small claims action in Michigan? Can you use the defendants old address, your rental unit that tenant moved out from and don’t have a current address, but you know where he works and there is a good chance he could be personally served at work? Trying to locate his current address by following him after work may be difficult? --99.12.xx.xx

Anyone can get a judgment-- the key is to collect on it. Here in our state you must show personal service to collect a money judgement.

Not sure but if you know where the person works why don't you serve them at work? One technique is to call X tenant and advise if I don't get a current address I will serve you at work. If that's OK with you I'll serve you and a copy to your boss. THEN shut up. 9 out of 10 times they don't want company served. The company I worked for in Atl really frowned on seeing the Sheriff show up on the hanger floor looking for someone....... was not received well.

DO NOT FOLLOW HOME. Think long and hard, in todays atmosphere, should I be STALKING someone? --99.103.xxx.xxx

Does your local apartment association offer skip trace service? If it doesn't ours does....but you would have to join the association --24.101.xxx.xxx

If you know where he works use the work address. The sheriff will go there, go to management and ask for him/her to please come to the office, whereas the sheriff will serve that person. I put right on the paperwork it was the work address. I even put down the hours best to get him.

I have done this before.

To make sure he worked there, what I did was call the company and I asked to speak to him, calling him by name.

I said I was his Mom and there was an emergency and he was not picking up his phone. The secretary went and got him and when he said Hello, I hung up. That way I knew for sure he worked there.

I figure, if they can be sneaky, so can I. I then had his wages garnished. I did not really like what I did but I have been learning from tenants-monkey see, monkey do.. --67.22.x.xx

I like the idea of using his work address if I can find where he resides. He works nights as a baker, 10 pm to 7 am after the location is closed, not sure if anyone would open the doors late at night, even if you could get someone to do service that late at night or early morning when his shift is over? --99.12.xx.xx
