I haven't read it -- its behind a paywall and I've used up all my free articles for this month -- but there is an article on the NYT front page this morning: "Rising Rents are fueling inflation, Posing Trouble for the Fed".

Rising rents are good but could we see the Fed gov't pushing states to enact rent control? Or even pushing for a national rent control law (is that legal?)?

I'm not sure I buy the premise of the article. Rising rents are reaction to other things, not the cause of inflation. Someone is floating a new agenda to further scapegoat landlords and the NYT was happy to go along. --72.188.xxx.xxx

Both Minneapolis and St Paul have rent control proposals on their Nov 2nd ballots. Minnesota state law requires voters to approve before anything can be implemented.

St Paul's would be the most restrictive in the nation capping rent increases at 3% annually. No exceptions for new construction.

I would expect any new proposed rental construction to be moved to the suburbs. --174.53.xxx.xxx

I went to buy a dozen eggs yesterday. It was $5 for 18. I didn't buy them there.

DH asked for a chicken to roast the other week ago. Usually you can get it for 60 cents/lb on a really good special, but otherwise, you pay about $1-$1.20/lb. It was about $9 for a puny 3-lb chicken... yeah, we didn't have roast chicken that night, either. ;)

We won't talk about lumber. Lumber does what lumber feels like doing. :P

Gas is up about forty cents over last month or two.

But yeah. Those pesky landlords... ;) --137.118.xx.xxx

Deanna, I asked my 5 year old this morning if he wanted oatmeal or eggs for breakfast. He said eggs. I said OK, go outside and find one. He went outside and a few minutes later he came in with three. --174.198.xx.xxx

Yep, our trusted media will say and do anything to keep the heat off of Sleepy Joe.

I don't suppose skyrocketing RE prices could possibly have anything to do with it. If they want to pin blame, they should look at Black Rock and all the other big organizations that are snapping up all the single family homes across the country. --73.25.xx.xxx

In my area rents are rising because branches of government are increasing the cost of business - property tax increase 19 percent in December with nothing at all to show, registration now mandatory to get court case file - 450 per year with little in return. --76.188.xxx.xxx

The cost of everything is rising. That's why rent is rising, coupled with all the moratoriums. The NYT just needed a scapegoat. I bet cheering for Brandon gains in popularity as the days increase.

Heard that the vaccine moratorium could result in Chicago's police force dropping by half the day after the moratorium deadline. They deserve to get everything they voted for. --108.69.xxx.xxx

Adorable, NE! :)

I buy mine $2/doz from the local homesteaders. It's good when there's daylight, but the ladies need a rest, and things get a bit lean when that happens.

Not quite as good as going out the back door... but the next best thing. ;) --137.118.xx.xxx

LOL, I guess the crazy inflation isn't really the problem, it's just that we think it is that is the trouble.

methinks Oregon that increasing fuel & toilet paper prices are the most obvious & painful results of inflation....rents are increasing bc of increasing demand whereas gas & tp prices result of decreased supply. --107.77.xxx.xxx
