We have been with the same insurance agent for over 30 years. All of our houses are with him ( over 30)
We have received written and verbal notice from him that we will no longer be notified when an insurance premium is due. Also, we have been transferred to another agent. He will only be working with new accounts.
I am not happy about this. Feel like I am not wanted/important any more.
Not sure if I should start looking for another company to do business with or just stay where I am.
Have any of you had this happen ? --24.233.xxx.xx |

Why would you stay? You obvously are not valued if they aren't even going to notify you when the premium is due.
I'd start shopping, check with local agents as well as NREIG. --149.76.xxx.xx |

I have noticed that my insurance company has been regularly waiting to mail premium invoice so that the invoice arrives in mail only 10 or 12 days before the due date.
I have complained about that and was told to sign up for their autopay. They are attempting to manipulate their customers into electronic payment by making it more risky to incur late fee if you wait to receive invoice in mail and then send check to them in mail.
I will definitely be canceling their a$$ and going with different company.

Most insurance agents make the most money writing a new policy, and very little on a renewal. I've had trouble with half of my insurance companies. They give extra discounts to new clients and reduce discounts to long term good clients with no claims.
I had over a dozen policies with Farmers. I then purchased a new house and got a good rate for this new policy. Then I added another room to my home, around 20% larger and my premium went up over 50%. Why? Because they dropped an alarm discount, senor rate discount and long term good client discount. They said they don't have those things anymore because they have a superior product. I have the best alarm, no claims with Farmers and my house is nothing special.
So I asked a neighbor to get a quote and he got an alarm discount and other discounts. Over 40 years with Farmers and they don't care.
So like I'm supposed to, every few years get a quote. I dropped like 8 policies with Farmers and my agent didn't have to ask why. He found out I purchased a Mall and his commission would have been over 10 grand.... --47.155.xx.xxx |

Robert,
Years ago before the collapse of mortgage backed securities caused big upheaval in stability of major financial institutions, I used to place a lot of value on the very large companies in financial services sector. Yes they did survive but after they demonstrated they were not immune to problems and many needed government bailouts, I was no longer ignoring the high quality smaller banks and insurance companies.
I have been with Farmers for many years but they simply no longer deserve my business. I have used a very good independent agent for other coverage and I'll give him a try again.

My ins carrier for 15 years made a similar change - prompting me to shop around. For 15 years my 16 unit was covered by Farmers Insurance of Flemington (different company than the Farmers Insurance we see advertising on TV).
Farmers did me a favor.
Annual premium was 12,200. Got virtually the same insurance from State Farm for 7,400/year. A savings of 4,800 or 39%. Call me stupid for not shopping sooner. Hopefully you'll have a similar experience. --73.215.xxx.xx |

I've had all of my insurances with Nationwide for years. When I shopped around, they still were best, with multiple discounts for multiple policies.
But recently, I switched my auto policy from Nationwide Mutual to Nationwide General (same parent company), with a 33% savings. Why? N.M. customers are guaranteed to never lose coverage (just get rates that soar if they have any major claims). That's it. Paying that much more on three vehicles was not good. As soon as we made that change, we discovered that Nationwide General upcharges for sending paper notices and bills, but not for the Mutual policies. Criminey.
We'll be shopping all again, soon, if they are getting that penny pinching. --98.114.xxx.xxx |

Of course I didn't read your notice but I would imagine you will still receive a bill from the insurance company. The difference might be that the agent will not contact you. Assumption that you are an adult and don't need the reminder. Many years ago before I had auto pay, when funds were sometimes tight or if I were contemplating making a change prior to renewal, I'd get a phone call directly from the agent as a reminder. Perhaps that is what they were referring to.
As to the other comment above about only receiving the actual bill 10ish days prior to due date, you know when the premium is due, what does it matter when they actually send it to you. At least in Pennsylvania, they give you either 30 or 60 days (I forget which) notice if the premium is rising. I know that I pay my homeowner's in March. I know that I pay my auto in March and again in September. I know I pay my stinkin' flood insurance in July. My rentals are all different so I have written on paper when those get paid. --98.237.xxx.xx |

We are seeing bills being sent much closer to due date for everything, not just insurance but all credit cards, utility bills, etc. with news that mail delivery is going to be slowed down this could be a real problem. They are wanting to add late payment fees or push for switch to electronic payments. --184.59.xxx.xx |

Piggy-backing on Nicole(PA's response. I just remembered that in PA, we have a 29 day grace period to pay insurance premiums. I learned that when I came home from a long vacation to discover that I was a day or two late and contacted Nationwide. That may help you to relax a bit, it sure did for me! --98.114.xxx.xxx |
