I have found a new yard stick in measuring inflation.

In previous years the March of Dimes would mail you a dime and ask you for money.

Today I got an envelope from the Law Enforcement Officers Relief Fund. Inside it was a single green back dollar.

A new first -

BTW, March of Dimes ask for a one time $20 donation but the Police were asking for 19.99 monthly

You want a real gauge! We just ordered the first kitchen in a year and a half from RTA cabinet store. Standard kitchen for a cookie cutter 3/1 ranch style house. Typically 2800-3000. It was $4,300!!! Direct from Chi na. Support posts for basement headers. Typically $60, now $102!!!! 16’ trex deck board, $87. But we’re also asking probably $20,000 more for this size house than we normally would. --24.152.xxx.xx

Massive infrastructure spending is going to put demand for steel where the price of steel is going to go up along with as economy recovers the price of gasoline, diesel is going to go up as well. The labour problem where the generous UI is making easier for people to stay home along the free for all where rent not being paid is compounding the problem. If more manufacturing was done here instead of importing from third world countries then the price of everything will go up. Here as vaccinations rates are increasing the economy is starting to open up where sport events can have full attendance during the fourth wave as Covid 19 cases continue to drop which was not expected. In the next coming months we are waiting to see what the vaccine mandates where more and more employers are requiring vaccinations. Now you can not get into a non essential business without vaccination certificates. Last week went to Ikea where can go into the door but have to show proof of vaccination plus identification to go into cafeteria. No one knows what is going to happen in the next six months. Heard on the news that the Us is going to allow people fully vaccinated into the country where those who received the Oxford Astra Zeneca vaccine will be allowed as well which was not approved by the CDC but approved in the EU and here. The land border maybe opened on October 21st where only now essential travel is allowed. The land border to Canada is open to Us citizens but not the other way now. As more money is spent that is going to increase demand. There are countries in the world that have no restrictions at all now where it maybe possible for that to happen here. Full economic recovery can only happen when all restrictions are completely lifted. --99.236.xxx.xxx

The federal Liberals here are pushing for $10 per day daycare where everyone knows that cost of daycare exceeds that many times over where higher income groups who do not need that. Universal basic income is where those already on social assistance would get more money where they are able to work. They tried universal income in the Scandinavian countries where a small percentage actually started a business while the rest did absolutely nothing. A economy can not function where half the people do not work. Suppose tomorrow in a city or town no one showed up for work. Oh it is too hot there to work or find it too difficult to work. On the main street in town you see those people on social assistance going to a place where they get free meals where many of them are smoking cigarettes. Cigarettes here have high taxes where they should be buying food not cigarettes. Some of them are living subsidized housing where they do not need to get free meals. They go to food bank where often half the food winds up in the garbage bin. --99.236.xxx.xxx

"$10 per day daycare"

Huh?

How does Canada afford all these socialized policies...is it because they don't have big military/defense spending like the US does?

I'm not familiar with what products Canada makes and exports. --72.188.xxx.xxx

Just completed a large addition to one of my farm sheds. Pine lumber is reasonable but prices are all over the place. Range can be up to 40% between local bld supply and the big boxes. Metal roofing was the most expensive. Four dealers told me prices may not come down.

SIL is a big PVC pipe dealer. He is paying 3X what he paid in January. --184.20.xxx.xx

The 10 dollar per day care is only proposed now where not into law. To compare Canada to the US the cost of living here is a lot higher then in the Us where essentially it is like living in the Us where many products are the same as what is available in the Us. The Liberals are in minority before the election and still in minority after the election where the progressive Conservatives are in the opposition where passing anything has to agreed upon. There is auto manufacturing, steel, lumber, aerospace, oil and natural gas, coal along with a lot other industries. In terms of population is about one tenth of the Us. While not as socialist as Europe where not as right wing as other countries. There is universal medical care where taxes are higher here. If there is inflation in the Us then the economies are integrated where there is constant movement of goods and services between the border where there is lot of truck traffic crossing the bridges and entry points between the two countries. Now the vaccine mandates are starting to become more common the percentage of those completely vaccinated is going up where the rate here is higher then other countries. Alberta and Saskatchewan provinces have a extremely low vaccination rate where the amount of people dying is high and the hospitals are being over whelmed. Today fill up tank where paid $1.33 per litre not a Us gallon which about 1/4. Gasoline is lot more expensive then last year. Groceries have already gone up along with everything else. So inflation is already here. Us news does not have a lot of coverage of what is going on here unless something happens. Once the infrastructure starts in the Us there is going to be a demand for steel. --99.236.xxx.xxx

In the past, inflation just hit certin sections of the market. 2008, oil went to 120+/barrel. Rippled through the economy. Then crashed... food did the same. Corn went to $8/bu, down to $3.35 two years later. All the while, wages stayed flat for the most part. Now, you have EVERYTHING going up and WAGES going up.

We are in 1972... 7 more years of inflation. It will take a new president and new Fed reserve to crash the party. OR, worse case... the world stops supporting the US dollar. --76.77.xxx.xxx

no “signs” of inflation. it exists. but measures are yoy and last year went down bc of low demand and so comparisons to last years or 1972 are not apple to apple (?) should compare to 2019 as a base line perhaps. still, it is not “transitory” whatever president says & now disagreements between the fed bankers..... --107.77.xxx.xxx
