I have a pink tub. I’m weighing my options of having it reglazed white or just buying a new tub.

Anyone have any experience with releasing. Particularly changing the color and has it held up? Worth it? --209.6.xxx.xx

I recently hired a tub refinishing vendor and was very pleased with the results. Mine was a product by Koehler. I have used the DIY products in the past and am encouraged by the appearance of the refinish job, time will tell.

This type finish will be ruined by abrasive cleaners. Cost was $270 for 1 tub and 1 shower stall. --149.76.xxx.xxx

It is possible to buy a DIY epoxy kit where after sanding along with thorough cleaning can redo bathtub where at best it is going to last two years. It depends if you are going to sell property or stay. The most difficult part of the renovation is demolition where the bathtub has to cut up then removed where a angle grinder or chop saw. If the demolition is done by yourself then cost is a lot lower. A lot depends after the demolition what will be found. A new floor, faucets along with drain assembly. View some videos on You Tube at DIY bathtub refinish kits or complete bathroom renovation. The two most important parts of a house for sale or rent is the bathroom or kitchen. For kitchen cabinets if the base of the cabinets are solid then refinishing doors, new counter top will cost a lot lower then replacing replacing everything. If want to save on labour costs then can buy a bathtub with upper sections then install without doing any tiling. For rentals then amortize the cost of renovations into rent where a nice bathroom can easily bring in $50 more per month. Often when people look for rental units it is going to be up to the girl friend or wife that they take the rental unit or house. A dark dated kitchen and bathroom are non starters. --99.236.xxx.xxx

I have a house with a pink tub. And it's a winner. People love it. The shower walls are white. Stage it with brown towels and a pretty shower curtain. I would not paint it. The ribs that I have painted... Once with kit but by the time you buy all the protective breathing devices you can pain to have it done professionally. The few I had done last a few years in a rental. So it it's empty unit just replace tub. Under a time line paint. The best ones that held up the best are where I just had the bottom of the tub glazed. With a little rough surface for safety. That is all I consider nowadays, just the bottom. --172.58.xxx.xxx

I tell people "New Vanity, sink, commode, floor, medicine chest, walls...we did not replace the tub because it's a TUB and impossible to do..." I put up a fancy dramatic shower curtain for showings and that's it. NO ONE objects. --50.82.xxx.xxx

plenty,

I never considered doing only the bottom since I thought the intersection with the sides of the tub might be likely to peel.

Has that been an issue??

If not, I like the idea since the bottom has been the only place where there is a problem in any of the tubs.

Just for clarification, when you say bottom you mean only the area where people can stand or sit, is that right??

Also, do you think a vendor that does this work would object to doing only the bottom??

They have to acid etch it or the stuff pulls off like a suntan. What's wrong with pink? I have a salmon pink tub in one of mine. It's pretty. I decorate around it. --108.24.xx.xx

I say replace if those are your options. Instead of the repeated need to re glaze. So lower maintenance.

I remember many years ago it used to last much longer. Then EPA got involved and the newer coatings where not as good. --73.40.xx.xx

Reglazing is a "joke". It's just a fancy epoxy paint put over the current surface that holes were filled and sanded smooth. Here is the general rule. If the unit is occupied and you have to do it for a current tenant, you'll spend the $250 and have it re-painted!

But if the rental is vacant and you just started repairs, you should consider replacing the tub with a new one.

Re-glazing = $250

Replacing a tub only $2,000, then fixing the tiles or water proofing the walls, add $500 to $1,000. --47.155.xx.xxx

Yes just looks like a matt on the bottom of the tub. Rounded corners. Yes just the area where people stand but the full length and width. Not up the sides only on the flat. Ive been more happy with this process than entire tub refinishing. Usually it's the bottem that starts looking the worst first. The sides usually retain their original glaze nicely. My sister has one of these that is ten years old last turn over looked just like day one. No peeling. Suppose slot lays in prep work and if you get a good person applying the costing. --172.58.xxx.xx
