State Specific Question About: KENTUCKY (KY)
My landlord is my uncle , he has claimed I’ve abandoned my property. I still have all my things there including utilities remain on. I stay with boyfriend from time to time but I still live in residence. What do I do --74.132.xx.xx |

Are there rent arrears where rent is owed. Now that restrictions are being lifted hearings will start to open up where you can get evicted for rent arrears. Tenants can also get evicted for other reasons like illegal acts, impairing safety along not keeping the rental unit clean. It becomes complicated as it is between family where it sounds like they want you out. If rent is current you are still are a tenant where in order to lock a tenant out meaning change the locks that has to done with the sheriff. I know people who are not paying rent where some asked what I should do where told them one day this free for all is going to come to a end. I know a women on social assistance in London Ontario where rent is $139.00 per month as the rests comes from government. Welfare is around $600 per month where that is sufficient to pay rent. Buying more clothes is not the answer here while rent is not paying paid. --99.236.xxx.xxx |

Look up your state’s laws on abandonment. In my state, all you would have to do is send a letter with a certificate of mailing stating “this property has not been abandoned, we are still occupying it”. Done. Kentucky may require you mail it certified. Keep a copy for yourself. --40.136.xx.xxx |

Speak to your Uncle and find out why and then look for a tenant friendly website where you might get advice suitable for a tenant. --98.229.xxx.xx |

Shelby,
Can you explain to me why renting to or from family is ever a good idea?
It seems like there is some damage to your family relationship that is going on. Without knowing what that means to YOU or your Uncle, any answer to your question would be difficult --24.101.xxx.xxx |
