I had to laugh today. I have some great college kids. One in particular texted me today and mentioned that the tub shower was dripping a bit and he was especially concerned about the mold growing on the inside of the shower curtains.
I said to him well, try tightening down on the faucet as that one needs a little bit extra push to close it a little bit tighter and that will prevent it from dripping.
Then I said, take a spray bottle and fill it with half water and half bleach and spray down your shower curtains several times a week, the bleach would inhibit the growth of mold.
Needless to say, he was very grateful to me for that bit of information and said he would take care of it and let his roommates know as well.
Price of college......thousands
Landlord knowledge....priceless

Found the best solution is to get rid washer type faucets where the ceramic disc with pressure balance with a single handle closes easily. Only once in while does the one cartridge need to be swapped out. Where one time had leak took the cartridge out then cleaned then installed no leak. Ball type shut offs with a 1/4 turn where no leaks along last longer. --99.236.xxx.xxx |

He may not have the specific knowledge but he called and learned. That’s a whole lot better than the one whose mom calls or the one that never bothers to call. He may actually have the basic skills to become a LL one day. --75.67.xxx.xxx |

Still Learning, you are correct on that. He’s the one that always calls me even about small things which I am good with. He seems to be the one that wants to learn the most and it’s nice that he does keep me abreast of things that I need to know.

On the other hand, you are correct again about having the mother call about things. Several years ago I had this awful helicopter mother. She called me one day and said “I know that my son is smoking pot in that apartment”.
I asked her how in the world could she know that and she said “his grocery bill is much higher“. She put the blame on his roommates of course. After he left it turned out that he was the culprit all along.
The point I wanted to make was that I deal with college kids all the time and I’m amazed at their lack of common sense and inability to figure simple things out. --68.191.xx.xxx |

So if you don't fix that drip you will have the enamel on the tub eroding and if it's a single handle the cartridge could have a terrible failure which could mean anything from no water coming out to huge volumes of water coming out. So while you are mocking a young college student you are seeing the "mote in his eye" and ignoring the "beam in your own eye". Signed, former college kid --108.24.xx.xx |

Due to the great expense in both time and money to attend college, I only recommend it to someone who is going into one of the "hard" sciences such as biology, chemistry, and physics; those who study engineering; or who go into mathematics/information tech or have a specific business learning pathway (accounting, finance, etc). I cannot recommend it to anyone who wants a degree in a "soft" science like poly-sci, gender studies, or other paths such as English, Music, philosophy.
Notice, I didn't say people should not go into those career fields, but there are better, cheaper, faster ways to get educated and experienced in those fields rather than spending 4-7 years and $50,000 - $200,000.
College is not designed to teach you life skills: that's your parent's job, or you get to learn on the job. I never did a load of laundry before leaving home. Figured out how in about 2 hours and no socks were lost, no white t-shirts were turned pink. Read the label on the soap container. Simple.
College should be about acquiring specific knowledge and experience that lead to a specific career track. Anything else is a luxury. If you want to learn the basics of living every day life, turn off the dang Netflix and pick up a hammer or spatula and/or watch some "how to" videos. No excuse these days not to know how to do basic things around the house. --108.230.xxx.xx |
