I can't seem to find any property code (Texas) about having a lock for doors inside.
My tenant wants to change current knob to master bedroom to a lock (with key) because their kids are doing goofy things.
I'm inclined to allow them to have a lock as long as they use the same key and restore to original knob when they leave.
but I'm not sure if this is even allowed legally.

NO. you are not running a boarding house. a safety issue also: kids have to unlock a door to get out of the bedroom in an emergency (eg fire) absolutely NO. --107.77.xxx.xxx |

You can purchase interior bedroom and bathroom door locks that from the outside of the room you use a slot or small hole in the handle that you can insert a tool to open the door in case of an emergency. So if a person locks them self out or a kid locks themselves in, anyone with half a brain can open up the door without kicking it down.

Universal fire regulation breach, I get this once in awhile on a sec8 inspection and it costs them 50bux each to get to normal privacy locks, it is now 75 in newer than 2019 lease. --76.188.xxx.xxx |

I installed those knobs which lock on the inside but can be opened with a 'tool' which is provided. Helps if someone locks themselves in the bathroom or kid locks parents out of bedroom. Works well and provides privacy when needed, unless someone loses the tool. I keep an extra just in case. --174.65.xxx.xx |

I no longer use the one that requires that little tool.
I use one that can be opened with a dime or screwdriver flat blade or knife or a lot of stuff lying around just in case of emergency.
I prevents someone from accidentally barging in but won't keep out someone if they need to get in such as if someone fell down in bathroom.

My bathrooms have inside locks so I put a tool in two locations if the kids want to lock themselves in. They are $10 to $20 each so not a big deal. --174.195.xxx.xx |
