New doors need peepholes so what height should they be??
No tenant in unit yet so don't want to go too high or too low.

Well the answer is it depends......is this apartment ADA?
If so here is what I found online
One peephole should be at “typical” height, and the other located 43 inches above the floor. Typical height rages from 563 to 643 with many locations choosing the lower range to accommodate more people. The line of vision for adults in wheel chairs is between 433 and 513. --24.101.xxx.xxx |

Crazy. Why bother. It's never going to be at a height everyone can comfortably use. Save your money. Add a door bell instead. --172.56.xx.xx |

I put them in front doors with no windows as a safety measure. The doors usually are wood with 6 panels which puts the intersection of 4 panels at about 5 feet or so. --65.188.xxx.xxx |

They are easy to install once you get the necessary bigger drill bit - mine need 9/16-in. They cost maybe $10. Easy peasy. Heck a new doorbell is more than a peep hole. --65.188.xxx.xxx |

Between 54" & 62" is the normal height for peep holes. If you are making the unit for wheelchair occupants than the standard height is 42" to 46". Frequently we install t at different heights. --71.184.xxx.xxx |

How Interesting. I would install three at three different heights in a straight line down the center of the door. A little bling bling. --172.56.xx.xxx |

Bonanza,
Yes I discovered that I didn't have a 9/16 inch drill bit so I just decided to use the 1/2 inch peepholes instead of the 9/16 peepholes since I do have the 1/2 drill bit.
Of course I decided to splurge and go for the 200 degree view.
I've narrowed it down to go with somewhere between 56" and 58". I think I'll borrow a shorter tenant for a minute and do a little field testing.

We have this issue with medicine chests mirrors :) DH is a foot taller than me. So if he hangs it correctly for him, all I can see is my eyes. Somewhere in between works: he has to bend a bit, I can get by with not seeing much of my neck. --50.82.xxx.xxx |

dino,
Wifey is 61” tall so her eyes are at 55”.
Ray’s 3 is an inch sign that travelled thru cyberspace.
Thankful for this discussion - I had never considered wheelchair height.
I would not install wheelchair height until I had a wheelchair res who requested it.

I have slowly changed to doors w/glass panes - I personally want to look out and see who is there and not try to play pirate by glancing through a telescope and the limited view you get. I also like the extra light. --98.237.xxx.xx |

Nicole,
It is true that the doors with glass can look very nice. However, I have never liked the door I have at home with glass. I just didn't like someone outside at door to be able to see in, even with stained glass or obscure glass, into area inside of door.
