I just found out that Home Depot (my town) has discontinued the Allure planks with the glue strips. I bought the last 10 boxes they had in stock. They have tons of the click-together types but the glue strip will no longer be available.

Will it still be available via special order?

I was rushing a renovation to completion in August. I usually grab Country Pine (with the occasional Teak or Cherry) in the Allure glue-strip. But whereas they normally have 50 boxes to choose from, it was all special order. Since time was of the essence, I picked up the click-together SomethingSomethingOak, since I didn't have time to mess around waiting for a special order to come in.

I try to standardize my materials as much as possible, but wow, do they make it difficult to do so. Every five years or so, it's like there's a totally new product shift and old products are abruptly retired. --137.118.xx.xxx

Deanna,

I got my information from the Home Depot Flooring Dept. Manager. I wish you or someone else would go online and see if my information is accurate. It could be just a regional thing. I have never special ordered anything. If Home Depot/Lowes does not have what I need in stock, then it does not exist.

I was told today it was just the Glue Strip Allure. --68.63.xxx.xxx

One time at Lowes seen some of the click type flooring which was already deteriorating. For rentals found the best solution is to spend more upfront then install a commercial grade porcelain where at least ten years or more where seen many rental housing providers in the never ending flooring that winds up in landfill. A lit cigarette, pets sneaked in the porcelain flooring stands up to tenant abuse unless they hit it a hammer. One person at the home depot told me that shingles are lasting 7 years where when replaced the roofs in the apartment buildings and house installed a steel roof. A few days there was hail where could hear the noise. The roof had no damage. The house next door has gone through three shingle roofs since installing a steel roof at the house in 2004. --99.236.xxx.xxx

I had the Allure Sedona special ordered through Home Depot. When both boxes came in and we opened them many of the tile were broken. The contractor was able to get enough pieces from those two boxes and what we had left over from a previous job to finish the job. We would have taken it back but it took too long to order and we needed to finish the job. I would suggest you always inspect your Allure special order floors. --99.165.xx.xxx

Sorry, was writing passively. ;) It's a girl thing. :) When you want to offer your own experience, which might contradict someone else's experience, you put it in the form of a question, to leave the conversational door open for being wrong, or for your experience not being valid in all 50 states, or for circumstances not having caught up to your specific geography. :)

Let me rephrase that...

"I like using the glue-strip Country Pine. They used to carry it in my local HD in plentiful quantities, but when I tried buying some in the middle of August, it wasn't stocked anymore, but was still available for special order. If I wanted to buy it on the HD website, there are currently 996 cases available for shipping that will arrive between the 16th and the 20th, if I chose ship-to-store-for-free-pickup, and by the 20th if I chose ship-to-home-at-the-standard-shipping-rates. However, I do not know how long this will continue to last. I remember when they got rid of corded blinds, I was still able to buy mine pretty easily in-store for a year after people in other markets were no longer able to obtain them, but mine eventually went away like everyone else's. I'm sure this phase-out will eventually catch up to us, too."

FWIW, the last time I tried special-ordering flooring from HD, a single box of flooring that was supposed to arrive in 4-6 weeks took, like, 5+ months to arrive. That was several years ago. It never did get installed, because I was tired of holding up the project waiting on the stupid box of flooring. :P --137.118.xx.xxx

Roy,

Sad to hear. Just wrote a work order to lay two entire homes.

Lifeproof is so expensive.

ANY flooring is like wall paint. Even the best material does not last forever. Well maybe concrete.

Colors and styles change. The Allure we laid years ago is still holding up nicely but the colors are outdated, It has outlived the trends.

Brad20K,

I don't mind switching colors to Driftwood Gray but is DG offered with the GLUE STRIP ? What I like most about the glue strip is these flexible planks can be laid over a floor that is WAVY or maybe just has a few humps in it. Before Allure, the only thing you could put a wavy floor was carpet. Most of the houses I have do not have perfectly flat/level floors and Allure glue strip planks was a dream come true. --68.63.xxx.xxx

I used to use tons of Allure glue strip. I have no complaints about the product, but I now almost exclusively use click lock flooring. I use the Lowe's brand, SmartCore, because we don't have an HD locally.

HD started phasing out the glue strip Allure a couple years ago.

I agree, the click lock will separate if the floor has humps or dips. But I level my floors. Sometimes I have to cut out the subfloor, brace the joists, and replace the subfloor. And sometimes add floor leveling compound on top of that. But that's my MO. I have a single floor in one rental where I failed to fix a dip prior to installation. the click lock floor separated 4 years ago, but the tenants said just leave it for now. So it's still there. --158.115.xxx.xxx

"Nothing lasts forever, except concrete..."

Exactly why I'm buying commercial. Metal boxes with concrete floors with a drain in the middle.

Sorry to hear about Allure, but I've found the seam separation problem plagues large projects, even with extensive floor prep and a 100 lbs roller. A floor like that needs to last a minimum of 10 years or you might as well just buy carpet.

Hardwood and tile are still good choices, but even with their high cost they show flaws.

Yep, I'm sticking with concrete... --108.230.xxx.xx

Homer,

Prior to Allure, I use to install the commercial version of Peel and Stick which was VCT. VCT (Vinyl Composite Tile) was/is the most bullet proof floor covering next to concrete. A lot of stores quit selling VCT (low demand) and so I quit using it and just switched over to Allure (10 years ago). I still install VCT in all laundry rooms though. A tenant can drag a W/D across VCT with virtually no damage. Maybe a scuff mark but it is still just a laundry room floor. --68.63.xxx.xxx
