Has anyone on this site sent a payment via Zelle and tried to get a reversal or cancellation. What were your results?

I could be wrong, but I believe there are no claw backs with Zelle. --142.54.xx.xxx

Like Jeff, I also believe it is not possible. I've used it for both rent and app fees, and DQ'd applicants would be the first to try a clawback if Zelle allowed this. Never happened. --72.188.xxx.xxx

I had someone send rent by mistake after they had moved out (forgot to cancel auto-pay) and had to ask me to return it, their bank couldn't help them. Of course I did! But good thing he didn't owe me money ;) --50.82.xxx.xxx

It CAN be reversed if the receiver does not have a Zelle account yet, but not an established account. --50.82.xxx.xxx

Hmmm...I've sent security deposit returns via Zelle at the request or approval of the departing tenant. When I do that I ask for the phone number or email to use when making the payment. Then I email the itemization to them, and notify them of the payment via email or text. I also ask them to verify receipt.

Have started doing so because the mail has gotten so bad recently here. When I send via return receipt, signature required recently, never received the proof it was received. Altho I was told it was received by the recipient, no proof was received back via mail.

I've not tried to clawback a payment. Wondering what would happen in court if tenant said they never got a Zelle payment, and I used the information given by them to make the payment and it was deducted from my account.

If left your bank account. Where did it go? My statement line tells the details. Have you checked your monthly statements or read the transaction online at your bank account? --172.58.xxx.xxx

Electronic Payments are accepted by the IRS and your state Department of Revenue, I figure that's good enough for me. --50.82.xxx.xxx

I had a tenant screw up my email address but it didn't match anyone else's who was registered, so he was able to reverse the payment and send it to the correct address. --50.82.xxx.xxx

Cannot be reversed once claimed, which is why I prefer Zelle for payments over PayPal or Venmo --216.59.xxx.xxx

PLENTY: My bank says the person's name I sent it to, associated with the phone number. In order to send it from my bank, I have to set it up with the phone number or email address, and the name associated with it. My tenant said she registered it with her bank, but has not sent verification that she received it. So I was wondering anyone else's experience with it. --23.227.xxx.xx

A friend of mine signed a lease and went to send the deposit via selle, and the bank was quizzing her "are you sure you want to send this money to him? Do you know this person?" It was strange. The only thing we could figure out is that the landlord is Chinese, really nice guy, but maybe they thought it was fraud?

So she sent it and then they held it up in limbo for 10 days bc they said it was over $2500.00. So she ended up giving him a check. It put her in a tight spot. The LL not knowing what to believe from this new tenant and a signed lease w no money. She was quite flustered by the whole thing. And not a good first impression!

She tried to have it reversed but they said no.

She says she'll never use zelle again after that. --75.70.xx.xxx

That was the bank teller, not the bank. Trying to prevent fraud, yes, but also simply interfering, probably because of personal prejudice. --50.82.xxx.xxx
