I am asking the board, what they believe the most common item left behind after someone moves out.

I am voting for the Christmas Tree

Coins - all over the floor

clothes - ratted and torn up

cleaning supplies - obviously never used (I haven't bought dish soap in years. It's so bad that I only keep Dawn brand now.)

beds - full of bed bugs or too nasty to sell

adult toys - no further explanation needed

These are the items I find the most. A lot of tires too, but thankfully not too often.

In the last 5 years, it's been broken snowblowers and lawnmowers.

Sonwblower # 1 was almost brand new - an oil change and fresh fuel got that one running.

Snowblower #2 was older but needed a couple of tubes in the tyres.

Snowblower #3 was just last month and needs a starting string and fresh fuel before I know if there's anything else.

Weedwackers generally need a new carb kit because of 2-stroke fuel.

Lawnmowers usually have a broken spline key. --98.229.xxx.xx

GEESE!!! Love it 6man!

Broom - there is a superstition that the broom contains your old problems so leave them at the house.

Clothes - cause they are so cheap at the thrift stores and it takes effort to sort thru clothes the kids have outgrown.

Free food from charities. Now it's outdated so we cannot return it.

Broken particleboard furniture from WalMart. Quality of furniture has plummeted in American.

I must add - since we became more diligent about providing move out checklists our homes return in MUCH better condition. We offer a $100 bonus if they leave the home PERFECT, nothing for us to do.

I also added the rent continues until the home is ready for market.

BRAD

Here, you cannot put it in the trash. You must drive it to the recycling center on certain days/times. None of them do so. Not the most common thing left behind, but the most infuriating is leaving the pets. I had one tenant that had a menagerie and let them loose in the backyard, including snakes and kittens. (You can guess how that ended.) I just adopted a dog and got his back story at pick up. Yep, the owner moved away and left the dog behind. Find a home, take them to a shelter, or make other arrangements if you can't take them with you. --174.206.xx.xxx

Ethically, if all other conditions have been satisfactorily met, tenants should be able to recover from a lost&found items location.

Otherwise, someone with a consignment and/or resale store could make a decent business of finding new homes for abandoned items. Large apartment complexes could yield a plethora of valued items, deductable donations and recyclable resources. Just saying, you know. --107.199.xx.xx
