I guess this is what the general public is seeing. More of the "landlords are bad" and promoting the agenda that women, and people of color of being sabotaged by a systemic oppression. They don't come out and say white folks are bad or men are bad, but it's heavily implied that white men are the evil landlords and thus taking advantage of the poor folks who need a place to live.

All I know is I hate evicting anyone! The only reason to do it is because the person didn't follow the rules. Its a royal pain in the butt to go through the hassle. What are we supposed to do when we aren't getting a break on taxes, building maintenance, and expenses keep coming But the income stops! I loathe these kind of "praise the poor victim" stories. I mean, yikes another way to look at what they just said was "women and poc do not pay rent very well as a group". Would that conclusion not be racist and sexist if we wrote the same article, changed the wording but used that title?

I have had wonderful women tenants, poc tenants, it's the individual and the decisions they make right? Did these people who are so far behind on rent with govt cash and assistance than ever, did they make good decisions and make the best of that help?

My goodness, if I were a person of color or a woman I would hate the way these stories paint me as a victim and give me a bad name. I'd be like "you don't speak for me with that agenda". I know there are many women landlords and people of color landlords on here, what are your thoughts when you read headlines that perpetuate this?

Women, people of color, and low-income families face the highest risk of being forced out of their homes as the eviction moratorium comes to an end

Women, people of color, and low-income families face the highest risk of being forced out of their homes as the eviction moratorium comes to an end

Eviction Moratorium Activists Massachusetts Signs DOJ

With the eviction moratorium likely coming to an end Saturday, millions of renters are expected to be plunged into housing disarray. About 73 percent of renters likeliest to be evicted are people of color. About 56 percent are women.

More than half of the likeliest people vulnerable to eviction make less than $25,000 in total household income.

See more stories on Insider's business page.

The eviction moratorium is expected to end on July 31, after Congress failed to renew it before heading into recess until mid-September. Once the moratorium expires, about 7.4 million Americans will risk getting evicted in the next coming months, according to Census Pulse Survey Data.

Women, people of color, and low-income households are the most vulnerable groups of renters who will be exposed to the consequences brought on by the end of the eviction moratorium. These three groups are believed to have the likeliest chance of being forced to leave their homes within the next two months, Census household data projects.

About 1.4 million renters are very likely to be kicked out of their homes in the next two months, the data says. According to Insider calculations:

About 73 percent of the 1.4 million renters likely to be evicted are people of color.

About 56 percent of the 1.4 million are women.

And about 76 percent have an annual household income of less than $50,000 a year. More than half of the 1.4 million make less than $25,000 in total household income.

Additionally, about 20% of the 1.4 million have at least some difficulty hearing, and about 50% have at least some difficulty seeing.

Once the moratorium ends, these groups of people have the highest risk of being evicted from their homes.

Last year, US Census data showed evidence that people of color more frequently faced evictions than white tenants did.

Women on average face 16% higher rates of eviction than men, a 2020 study by the Eviction Lab said. When broken down by race, the difference is even more drastic.

Between 2012 and 2016, the study says, Black women were evicted about 36 percent more often than Black men.

"There's the dynamic intersection between poverty and race," Shamus Roller, executive director of the National Housing Law Project, an organization that aims to advance housing justice for poor people and communities, previously told Insider.

Researchers say there are several reasons why women might be evicted at higher rates than men.

One study, for example, found that men have a tendency to share personal conflicts like a job loss or health issue with their landlord directly while women generally keep to themselves, especially when either group deals with predominantly male landlords.

"The interaction between predominantly male landlords and female tenants," that same study says, is "a culprit and often turns on gender dynamics."

And in general, single mothers are more vulnerable to economic disadvantages and financial difficulties. --70.158.xxx.xx

I am most irritated by, "renters who will be exposed to the consequences brought on by the end of the eviction moratorium."

How about consequences brought about by personal decisions?

There are millions of federal relief dollars waiting to be doled out in every state.

Some states are more efficient at distributing it than others.

But, in general, I would die say that if you qualified for rent relief according to the CDC guidelines, you would have al let applied by now (even if you haven'r received the money yet). These tenants who showed they were truly affected by Covid - according to the CDC - won't be evicted because of it.

If, however, the tenant did NOT qualify for relief, but just took advantage of the eviction moratorium while thumbing their nose at the landlord - they NEED to be evicted, and deserve it.

Being low income or whatever - shouldn't matter, because that low income was enough to qualify to move in. What changed?

So the poor may soon be evicted.

As my friend used to say "No S..t Charlie". I don't imagine many millionaires are going to be joining the eviction line...but who knows? Maybe some haven't been paying their rent either.

20 percent have some issue with hearing and 50 percent have some difficult seeing?

Where do they come up with such figures? I've had cataract surgery myself and lately I'm finding I have to turn up my TV louder...but so what?

I agree that this article is more likely to prevent LLs from renting to women and poc. After all these people aren't being evicted out of spite. They're being evicted because they breached a signed contract (with the govts blessing). These people should be screaming at all the politicians that made not paying rents for the last year and a half seem like a good idea. If anyone, they're the ones with blood on their hands.

Laws are made so tenants cannot be evicted if they do not pay the rent.

So why should we still need to pay our mortgages? I realize the interest would continue to rack up.

I posted the following on another site Not sure if naming the site is allowed here.

I was a small time landlord with 2 rentals. I had hoped the extra money would help my wife and I live better when I retire. That is why I got up at 3:30 AM in January when the tenants heater quit.

I still own the rentals, but, they are for sale. One will be vacant August first, the other when I evict the deadbeat. I refuse to stay in a business where the federal, state, or local Fauci can destroy you at will. In this case, I use the term Fauci to describe any petty tyrant out to destroy you.

Small landlords provide 40 percent of rental housing. There will be a shortage of affordable housing soon. I do not care. I used to provide affordable housing, until I saw how much the government hates me.

Part of the reason I post this is grief. I am flushing a 20 year old business down the toilet. All over a flu

bug. Words fail me.

The thing is, Missouri isn't that expensive to live in, compared to many other places. Second, one guy comments about people on Social Security. Well, the entitlements didn't ever stop! In fact, they got more if they got a LOW entitlement, because the SNAP payments have been higher!

In my case, it just lined up this way...but I have shacks sitting empty. I don't want to be bothered with people living in the homes and not paying.

I don't have a property manager available, nor do I have people to work on the houses. So my shacks sit.

I could not do this if I worked for you, but I work for me.

Moving forward I plan to really discriminate against lazy people. I have an opportunity to provide homes with lawn service and all the appliances you could ever want, for below market rates. I'll take my time and rent them next year when the dust clears.

(Meanwhile, my income will drop off, I'll not pay out as much in taxes and I won't provide jobs for anyone).

But I will eat ice cream, starting with some right now. --108.28.xx.xxx

Did you know when black men served their country and return home they had to live in poverty while new communities were built for your family, Do you know when the black tried to build businesses in their communities you burn it down or build freeways through it. My Black men have a hard time keeping their head and spirit up because you are there kicking them down.

Low income renters are always higher risk, their color doesn’t matter. Their sex doesn’t matter. Their income and financial management skills matter as well as knowing how to live beneath their means.

The only people I’ve ever had to evict have been white couples, and in one case a single white male.

I have had many minority renters and many immigrant families who gave me no issues at all. As a result I tend to favor them. Then again if you screen properly, look at their history and verify their incomes support the monthly rent, you don’t typically have problems. --75.89.xxx.xxx

Most of the government funded left wing tenancy advocates happen to own houses. Why not have some people move into the houses they own then provide free utilities then see if they would not try to evict. Make housing a right for the tenancy advocates. Go down to grocery then walk out with shopping cart full of food without paying then what would happen. If a tenant did receive pay cheque wonder if they would be down at labour department next day. Now what needs to happen is tenants need to start a payment plan where over time the rent arrears need to be cleared. A lot tenants would rather get evicted as they want to keep the rent arrears to themselves. Not every tenant was unable to pay rent where some continued working or were collecting UI. --99.236.xxx.xxx

@mamabear the time period you are referring to was AFTER the civil rights movement. Again, govt interference..."we will dangle a pittance of govt crumbs in front of you IF dad leaves the household." All for Democrat political gain.

The same thing is happening in white suburbia. Men and fathers are demonized and portrayed as idiots by the media, again in cahoots with Democrat politicians, who need a permanent victim underclass to stay in power.

Indentured servitude was abolished but not really. Fathers are pushed out of the home via "family" court, govt agencies collect child support on the threat of dad losing his drivers licence or being thrown in jail. These same local collection agencies receive fed kickbacks for highest amount of $$$ ordered and collected from the feds under SS Title IV (thanks, Clintons)

Meanwhile mom collects but often systematically cuts of dad's visitation rights which is almost never remedied in court despite hiring an attorney. The mantra is that women NEVER lie.

I say this as a divorced single mom who knows the system very well and was once married into the poc community. --174.208.xx.xxx

I had an applicant this time...he had 7 months at the current job and 8 months on the job before that. The group had more than enough income to qualify but on the second job (same field -- auto mechanic) the pay went down instead of up. I decided to pass.

My single largest expense at this point in my career is taxes. If the government was truly there to help, one might surmise that waiving taxes might have been in order.

That simply will not ever happen - ever.

Government is a business itself. It can and will impose rules for the good of the group allegedly, but these same standards will not apply to themselves - as it is a health and safety issue.

Homelessness is a real issue - perhaps addressing the root causes might prevent the issue. That requires being pro active about drug abuse, family structure, and mental health issues. Instead of inflicting these solutions, we allow freedom of choice for all - and with comes allowing people to make some real poor financial decisions --24.101.xxx.xxx
