I have been researching renting an ozone generator. I haven't found many places available that rent them so I may have to buy one.

I read that they have timers where the max time is 3 or 4 hours. If that is the case, how do you do this in a vacant unit that is not close to where you live?

I read online that you should run an ozone machine for 20 - 30 hours in a whole house. That would mean you'd have to keep re-entering the unit ever 4 hours or so to reset timer.

What is the best way to do this?

Get one with a hold feature.

We use a OdorStop OS2500UV

First one we bought was to small a unit and just had a timer.

The unit that I have has a timer that can run for up to two hours or it can be always on. Currently $82 on Amazon: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D8MC68M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 --73.177.xxx.xx

Wall timmer? Keep asking questions the answer is out there. Our carpet cleaning guy plugged his in our stinky house. Closed everything up tight, nothing running for weeks! Could not enter. That was 30 years ago house has never smelled since! --172.58.xx.xx

Thanks guys.

I found one online that has a 12 hour timer. I'll look into the "hold" feature as well and the models posted on here.

I think I'm going to buy one. It costs $170 to rent one for one for just ONE DAY, at the place I called, so the idea of actually buying one to keep is sounding more attractive. I thought it would be easy to rent one of these but they appear to be scarce around here.

I leave the switch to on and put it on a 24 hr light timer. Then I can schedule it on n off as I see fit. --172.58.xx.xxx

For $15.00 or $20.00 you can buy a nice plug in 24 hour timer & set it to run 20 hours or whatever amount you like. This way you can run it for several days if you want to. Just be sure to make note of what it's set for so you can enter a couple of hours after it shuts off. --71.184.xxx.xx

AND, plug it into the outlet nearest your entry door. Even if it means using an extension cord. One power outage, and the thing might be running when you want to enter the property. With the power cord close to the point of entry, you can hold your breath and dash in, dash out to unplug it.

Mine doesn’t have a timer ; I bought a three prong timer at Wal-mart. --172.56.xx.xxx

I did some research and ended up ordering the model RR78 suggested (thanks RR).

After I used my Chase Amazon points it only cost me $20 more to buy this than it would have cost to rent a machine for one day at the equipment rental place in my area. --72.188.xxx.xxx

Whatever size you use be sure to have the extension cord plugged in next to the entry/exit door so you can turn it off and allow 20-30 minute air out, when you smell the sweet smell go away for another 10 minutes or so... --76.188.xxx.xxx

J,

With regard to ozone machines, size matters. Small is only good for one room.

The best thing I did to control odor was to go carpet free. Has not been a problem since.

My ozone machine goes for 4 hours max. I also plug in a fan using a christmas light timer to run at the same time to better circulate the ozone. --71.184.xxx.xx
