The shingles are still on the roof where 1"/2" wood strapping the metal roof is bolted right in no tear up. The straight metal panels come in three grades which are residential, medium and commercial. A little more then commercial grade is a better option. The house and apartment buildings has a straight gable roof which makes installation a lot easier. I never want rent a roof where is installing shingles is like renting a roof. Had someone out of town install as the roofers here wanted repeat business. In Europe they do not use shingles at all except for a garden shed. Metal, Aluminum and Clay tile only. If the dimensions of the roof are known then price out materials. Here in town what the roofers will do is buy the cheapest line of shingles then will have repeat business. Shingles wind up in a landfill as not recyclable. A metal roof is complete package where the company will supply all the materials for the metal roof. With dimensions can compare difference in material costs. When life expectancy is easily three to four times longer then the higher cost is paid for. OSB is common material used here for floors and roofs where the thickness of OSB is less for a roofs. What is important is ventilation where the roof panels allow air along with top vent where most of the heat is vented out. The month of June was much hotter then previous months where the trees turned greener a lot earlier then previous years. What is happening is the outside temperatures during the day and night are going up where winters are going to receive less snow. What is important is a water tight roof where moisture destroys OSB. Instead of going to landfill they use the asphalt for roads or something else. I never go back to using shingles again.
