I would like to have the contractor install new ceiling lights for the kitchen. Now they have long fluorescent light fixtures.
Lowes has CANLESS recessed lights for $115 for a box of six. But the problem if they burnout I need to find some one to replace and will cost money.
On the other hand, they also have HALO which is bulky because of the can but those light bulbs can be changed by us and cost about $3 a piece.
Which of the above is desirable both for look ease of installation and functionality.

Clients want to change out the old surface mounted fixtures to Recessed Lighting. Could be good idea or a nightmare. If this is for a multi-floor apartment house, then by cutting a hold in a ceiling to install lighting, you've just broken a sound break and will allow noise to travel in both directions. They make Cans that are sound and weather insulated. Some cans have holes to circulate the air -- watch your a/c bill climb through the roof!

If there are standard four foot florescent bulbs along with a newer type of electronic ballast then can LED bulbs which use less current along with less heat. In the house using LED lights for the entire kitchen. --99.236.xxx.xxx |

These canless lights are easy to replace if one burns out.
Ebay also sells these in different quantities.

I went to recess style about 6 years ago on rehabs and like them, they are now in my stairways and closets - tenant can't break them moving furniture and closet stuff, a simple win for all using led bulbs costing 50 cents. --76.188.xxx.xxx |

Flat panel LED. Home Depot has them. 4 x 1 and 4 x 2 panels will cover the ceiling where the old fixture was. They protrude from the ceiling less than an inch, and trimmed in white they blend right in with any decor. I have them in my house. Also have a round one over the sink.
