I'm thinking of changing paint colors to pure white because white is always on the shelf with no mixing. Home depot no longer has Swiss coffee semigloss on the shelf. And mixing swiss coffee takes too long. Does pure white semigloss look bad as an interior colour? --172.58.xxx.xxx

IMO, white by itself makes a property look dated. And using semi-gloss would make it look even worse, showing every roller mark.

If wait time is an issue, order Sherwin Williams paint online. --172.56.x.xxx

You need some color. And I would go with flat..even in bathrooms and kitchens.

Semi gloss white on the doors and door jambs would then look okay.

(Use high gloss white on the insides of closest...no matter what the room color is. Two reasons. One is I said so, two is that the high gloss paint is also exterior...so you can touch up outside and closets all out of one can. You don't paint closets and exteriors as often as you paint inside).

Hi Mike, I'm going to be the dissenter here. I only use white semi gloss paint on everything and it has never been an issue. I fell that once someone brings in their belongings that will add the color. Plus the curtains and/or blinds that I use also add color. Also I think it makes a space look a little larger and when I see some of the homes and mansions on tv they are using white. When I went to a apartment tour recently the color was white and some off white. White provides a blank canvas. Good luck. --12.47.xx.xx

Semigloss only looks good on woodwork. There is a satin finish too and an eggshell and both are better than flat white. --108.24.xx.xx

Not saying I am correct but we use flat ceiling white on ceilings in large rooms. Walls are Ben Moore floral white in satin and trim and doors is high gloss off the shelf white. In bedrooms we have been ok doing ceiling and walls in the floral white. I like satin because sometimes I can get by cleaning the walls rather than painting. I like using all the same color so I can do just 1 wall if need be. --67.7.xx.xxx

IMO, the white from a can is too stark. I understand not waiting around to get your paint mixed, but perhaps you all ahead to the pro desk and pay for it over the phone and they could have it mixed for you. I wonder if you can do it online for instore pickup that day, even? --70.105.xxx.xxx

We use Eider White from Sherwin Willilams on all walls. In every unit. That way there is not color matching or anything. It's all straight forward - I order it in the 5 gallon buckets, they deliver it either that day or the following day so there is not really a long wait time.

If I know that we will have more than 1 move out, I will order the 5 gallon just to have it on hand since we have a storage place that it will not freeze and get ruined.

It is not bright white, but not dull either. It's the perfect tint of both.

Hi Ken - I don't think that it looks overwhelmming. I'm used to it and it's never been a problem. I started off using different paint sheens but that was too much work and especialling if I'm spraying a house which is what I usually do.

Hi Mike - No but I wish I was.

I hope you all have fun and learn a lot the convention. --12.47.xx.xx

I use Walmart White house brand semi-gloss on turnovers - walls, ceilings, cabinet doors - sometimes cover the windows, floors and appliances and spray it on with a spray gun. Can find at any Walmart and paint got a good review on Consumer Reports. Cheapest upgrade on turnover is fresh paint for B and C class apartments. --2.56.xxx.xx

All whites are not the same. "white" probably has more shades than any other color, so if you think you can just go get a can of white and touch up, you are wrong. I think white usually too stark, boring and prone to showing dirt. I think off white, antique white, and beige are too dirty looking to begin with. (that may have to do with plenty of smoke covered walls I cleaned years ago) I think grays (even light gray ) with white trim are pretty neutral and clean looking.

Even if you decide to paint it white, semigloss on the walls usually looks cheap, trim and walls in the same color look lazy and cheap. But I will admit, I am white ceiling person. They all have to be painted flat ceiling white. --71.164.xx.xx

Agree with LindaJ, I tried picking a white and it is difficult. They all have some kind of undertone. Some other yellowish, others are very cold.

I did paint a house that I ended up selling, in SW Greek Villa. I thought it looked nice. Not too stark but not yellowish either. The doors and trim where SW Extra white so there was a little bit of contrast. --72.188.xxx.xxx
