Google Photos or Drive (by dino [CA]) Posted on: Jun 6, 2021 3:52 AM

I have many photos on memory card in smartphone which are divided into several albums for organization. Most relate to documenting things for the apartments.

I would like to create backup in Google cloud using Google Photos or Google Drive.

It would be much easier if I could just upload each album which has maybe 20 to 30 photos in each album, but I have been told that I can do that only in Google Drive, and that Google Photos would not retain the separate albums when the photos are uploaded.

Is that true? I really don't want to organize hundreds of photos again if I don't need to.

Thanks for any info on this.

Before this cloud Services, i had a bunch of pictures in my computer, i upload them all to my google drive, and they are separated by folder, by month, year or the way i labeled them, i don't know about know, i haven't had to do that in a very long time, more than 4 years.

Just try with the smallest album 1st, or create one or two with a few pictures, name it TEST and TEST 1 or something and go from there... --98.216.xx.xxx

LordZen,

O.K. I'll try it. I expect it to work with Google Drive but it's Google Photos that I'm not so sure about. I'll just try both but I was thinking that there might be some procedure for Google Photos that I was not aware of based on what I had previously been told.

Thanks.

Be sure to compress each directory first before storing. Compressing reduces space and turns the entire directory into a single compressed file. When you want to use the file, you expand it and the entire directory structure is returned to normal. Saves a ton of space. Both Win and Mac compress and have that option when you right click on the file or directory.

If cloud drive doesn't work. By removable hard drive and store it in a safe or better, buy two. Store one in the safe and the other in a safety deposit box at a bank. --108.69.xxx.xxx

I would first move to a cd that you can proudly say is without any online interaction with viruses, then make a spare because when the cloud rains (and it does weekly) you will have them in your sock drawer. --76.188.xxx.xxx

I like Google Photos because I use my phone to take all my photos and they are automatically uploaded on the day I take them. Then I can just click one button, group them into a folder and download them to my computer. So they are now both places.

BUT if you delete the folder, the photos are still there. If you really want to get rid of them, you have to first delete all the photos in that folder and then the folder itself. --50.82.xxx.xxx

WMH,

Can I group them into folders on Google Photos and have them remain in those folders in the cloud.

We load them into folders on our PC desktop, and back them up periodically to an external hard drive. --108.52.xxx.xxx

Google Photos IS the cloud. It shows up on your phone or PC or any device linked to that Google Account but the guts are in the cloud. --50.82.xxx.xxx

WMH,

Yes I know, my question was not clearly written,

Will folders I create in Photos for purposes of copying retain the folder structure when saved in Photos??
