Has anyone seen this new company? A franchise of Ace Hardware.

We have a tiny studio that needs new flooring soon - first place we've ever had that the Allure has separated and spread and in a big way - easier to replace it all than to repair. Decided we would go with the click-lock stuff to prevent a reoccurrence (might be the temps, it's a ROG and the downstairs garage is not temp controlled. Although there is plenty of insulation so really not sure what happened.)

Decided this was a great test place to get a quote from them.

He said he would quote this job as a single job with a set price, which I get soon, but on a regular basis, they charge $110 per hour...

FWIW. --50.82.xxx.xxx

In my opinion, not worth the effort.

These places have decided to just be a middleman. They use the same people/contractors in the area that you could find on your own, but add their fees on top of the workers. That $110 per hour is a good example.

I would not waste the time on this. --24.180.xx.xx

I was hoping for a reasonable price. $110 is not a reasonable hourly price for handyman work, although I'm told none of the workers are contractors, they are all employees. Which means they are getting, what, $25 an hour? Maybe?

Received a set quote of about $1000 to lay (less than) 300 square feet of Allure Click Lock. The studio rents for well less. So even if it took us a month, we'd save (a lot of) money doing it ourselves.

I only posted so that people would know the prices being charged, in case they were curious. --50.82.xxx.xxx

Wow, I'll install flooring for $110/hr every day of the week! (Except Sunday.) Anyone need further evidence of inflation? --104.230.xxx.xx

I doubt that the ones they provide are worth hiring.

Maybe your hubby should apply...just for fun

W,

I know a guy who owns a Handyman franchise. He charges $100 per hour, pays $15-25. He tests his workers before hiring and follows up for client feedback.

He is booked solid at that rate. People just want it done, not concerned with the price.

My electric utility is advertising handyman services.

PS

Obviously he does not do much work for LLs! His best customer is someone with money in a nice home.

The challenge is, if you can lay this floor in four hours, can they do it in 3hours? --172.58.xx.xx

I know Brad and we may just pay their price on some projects. We have some window and door installations coming up. Having someone who can do the job efficiently and get it done in a day rather than us who would take way more time per window might be worth the price for the time savings.

But Plenty, in this case, if we hired them we'd pay well over a month's rent to do a job we can do in a day (between removal, haul away and reinstall.) But even if it took us a week, we'd still be ahead because the rent on this one is so cheap and it's tiny.

If this were a larger place and they could get done in a few days what would take us weeks, then it's perhaps worth it. --50.82.xxx.xxx

Thanks for this information. If they have someone with good carpentry skills, I’ll gladly pay this. It takes me a long time to research and do some tasks that they can get done efficiently. And with the price of lumber lately, my mistakes aren’t cheap either! Lol! --70.92.xxx.xxx
