Keyless Locks (by Mary [CO]) Posted on: May 14, 2021 12:07 PM

I'm considering remote keyless locks for my rental that I'm converting to a short term rental (traveling nurses). I'd prefer to have a lock that is easy to install (but can spend more time installing if needed), one that I can have complete control over from across the country in case I have a new tenant occupying my rental while I'm out of state.

Any suggestions of locks you may have installed that are keyless.?? Pros and cons on brands?

There are so many options but overall I'd like to make it convenient for the tenant and me when they leave and I need to give them a new code.

Thanks!

I went through two keyless locks in two years at my primary residence. After the second failed, I decided it was time to return to the old lock and key variety. I'm thankful I never used them for a rental. --73.177.xxx.xx

I have all keyless entry. I do not have the remote option, but they are in all the vacation rentals we visit. I would like to install them on the rentals as well. The only problems I had with them at the vacation rental is that the code changes the day you are leaving. Like 12:01 am the day you are leaving. We’ve been locked out while packing up more than once. --68.191.xx.xx

Try LockState locks. They are made for vacation rental market. They have a key lock and keypad combo and work off wifi. If they're locked out, you can remotely unlock from your location. They also log entry/exit and interface with several reservation booking software systems. I use them on my personal residence and love them. They've been installed in my home for over 3 years. My only suggestion is to use longer screws on the doorknob strikeplate. Over time the strikeplates move and cause the lock to rub against the deadbolt strikeplate. Longer screws eliminate that issue. The only problem with keypad locks is that they require batteries. However you can adjust the time that it communicates with the website to make them last longer. Pinging the website once or twice a day makes the battery last for 1-3 months. It also contacts the website everytime the keypad is activated or lock/unlock from deadbolt.

They're nice. You can have them autolock or you can set certain times of the day where it locks automatically. --108.69.xxx.xxx

As a handyman, I have installed Nest locks on 4 doors for customers. The install is not too bad...the only warning is that the latch must move VERY smoothly with no interference or you'll get an error...so make sure you have a well-aligned latch plate and are good making minor adjustments if needed.

I've never owned one of these locks, but the people I install them for love them. --99.92.xxx.xxx

I would simply get your usual Landlord iCORE lock and add a August wifi system.

I have the August back on the locks on my house, as well as the 3 places we are using for travel nurses. EASY to use. We keep the regular key locks in place because if the batteries die, then the key still works.

I can still remote open them when needed. --67.43.xxx.xxx
