I have an applicant, everything looks good but she doesn't have DL? how is that possible? She is a US citizen and husband has Green Card, both born in Mexico, both have SSN..

I have never deal with this before. I hate to deny her based on this but it's odd, how can they drive without a DL? sound fishy

Lisa, maybe they don't drive. If they do drive, then they are breaking the law and I wouldn't rent to them.

Here in California, 1 out of every 5 adults, either have no:

a) Drivers License

b) No Insurance

c) Vehicle not registered to them, still in previous owners name

d) Expired License Plate Tags

One of my tenants said, "Robert, look at my new car"! I said to her, when did you get your license? She responded, I got a car to practice, then get a permit, then get a license.

I then said it's like with your child. First you got pregnant. Then you have a child. Then you got a boyfriend ( not the baby's father). Then you got engauged, then got married.

Everything in the wrong order!

All they need is a car and a key.

If I remember, some states had to pass laws a few years ago allowing non-citizens to obtain a DL...probably because so many were driving without.

We rent several low end homes to non-English speaking residents. I don’t worry about IDs because what am I going to do with the ID when they go back to Mexico?

Thanks for all the feed back. I am just concerned if landlord will get in trouble say if they hit someone driving driving downown the road. There are 2 elementary schools walking to the house.

I did used their other photo ID like passport and green card. They have valid SSN as well, ran background checks everything else is good.

Really?

Using the same logic, you are now knowledgeable about this individual driving without a license and aren't doing anything about it. That means if they hit a pedestrian with their car, that pedestrian will now be able to sue you. Correct?
