Landlord accused of sexual harassment against tenants agrees to court oversight -- A Spring Valley landlord accused of repeated sexual harassment against female tenants has entered into a consent order with the federal government, an agreement that subjects him to a $580,000 civil judgement while still allowing him to be a landlord under oversight. When I make a recording, I make sure a 3rd party can hear both sides of the conversation, so it won't be a privilege conversation. Then I later transcribe the conversation and use my notes in court. When challenged, I offer my tape recording to verify my notes. Works every time. --47.155.xx.xxx

The word "repeated" and tenant"S" are what jumped out at me. So I'm guessing this was not a single, isolated situation.

Not positive but almost positive - in Pennsylvania, you cannot record someone without permission (or perhaps notification such as 'this call may be recorded for training purposes'. Video, yes. Audio, no.

When my kids were old enough to help me on their own and would go to properties without me, I stressed to them that they were never to enter a house with a minor home alone nor an adult of the opposite sex. That was more than 20 years ago. Not sure how I'd teach someone young those parameters in today's world.

Slightly off topic, but years ago I was witness to a workplace female-on-female sexual harassment case. Very strange experience. The "victim" definitely encouraged the playful banter and even participated in it, but it didn't matter. The female boss still got tossed. --50.107.xxx.xxx

well it can be used as a weapon, several years ago I overheard one of my office workers giving advice to another woman. She told her to threaten to file a complaint with the authorities that he was sexually harassing her. She didn't know I was the next room with an open door, so I could hear the particulars and the boss actually didn't do it but you could use it as leverage. Shortly thereafter I found a way to end her employment with me. However I was worried that she would try the same thing with me.

I don't know what really happened in the above case here, but I do know it can be a powerful tool for a woman, or maybe even,a man to use.

How do you think you would fare if someone made an unsubstantiated claim against you? It's one of those things that you are considered guilty until proven innocent.Even if proven innocent, some would still consider that got away with it. --66.30.xx.xxx

As a former Boy Scout leader, don't forget to protect yourself against claims regarding minors.

Our training was "Never be along with a child".

Indiana is a one party state - as long as *I* approve I can record ME talking to someone else without express permissions.

Another wrinkle - if you are on the PHONE with a person in another state THAT STATE's rules also apply to you.

How about this? Just say MIND IF I RECORD THIS?

Typically one tenant knows the legal ropes (like the ones who have been evicted - professional tenants) and makes an allegation and tells all the others that the lawyer promised her a lot of money . . . then the others jump in and make allegations too. I think that is why they call it the "Metoo" feminist movement - shake down cash from rich men. Had a fire years ago and one tenant alleged that the electric water heater caught fire and I was to blame. Then all the others in the building except for 1 blamed me and talked to reporters. What they didn't know is the 1 tenant had heard the ex-tenants from Apt 3 through the bathroom window by the water heaters saying they were going to torch the building to get even for being evicted for non-payment and meth. Once the Sheriff's deputies found out the truth, I was exonerated. I still don't know how an electric water heater full of water catches fire . . . LOL --201.140.xxx.xx
