S i d[MO]UI is the dream of many a slacker. Sit on your butt and do nothing, and money shows up because...."I exist, therefore I get $$$." Of course there already is a UI. It's $0. All prices are based off the assumption that people have a certain income level, and $0 is at the bottom of that scale.
Once everyone is assumed to have a minimum of $1000 (or whatever), prices will rise to compensate. The day I know every tenant has an extra grand in their pocket, my rents are going to rise considerably, as will every other LL in town with a brain, as will every other merchant or service provider. A few won't catch up for awhile, but they're the same ones renting houses for $300 now when they should go for $700 or higher. No skin off anyone's teeth but theirs.
I don't know where these economists who support UI get their data or how they tweak their analysis, but it simply doesn't work without price controls. Once you get those, we're basically a communist nation where Govt determines who gets what and for how much: "From each according to their ability, to each according to their need." Might as well do away with prices. That has worked out so poorly throughout history, I'm not sure why people keep insisting on trying it again and again.
USSR, China, N Korea, etc. Gulags, ethnic cleansings, "glorious leaps forward" 10s of millions dead/murdered at the hands of the state or starvation. People don't read history. A child has to touch a hot stove every now and then because he refuses to listen to his parents. Just so with the body politic every 50-80 years, it seems.
