Today’s headline:

Swimming pool chlorine shortage. Prices already double. Big processing plant burned. Can’t operate a pool with partial chlorine.

Propane: some properties need this for heat, water heaters, cooking. I need it for my grill!

Gotta open the pool and have burgers on Memorial Day.

Ordinary bleach works fine in a pool. Be careful when pouring to avoid ruining clothing. --96.234.xxx.xxx

If natural gas is available then it easy to convert out natural gas. Another option is install solar panels then use inductive cooking to heat food along with installing a heat pump water heaters which are much efficient then water heaters with resistance elements. It is possible to build a DIY solar water heater panels out copper pipe and common building materials where obtain plans. Here when the price of oil and propane spiked a lot of houses in rural locations install ground heating and cooling systems which is expensive to install but very economical to operate. --99.236.xxx.xxx

I accept when something like the fire causes shortages but lately the excuse is Covid. And it seems like it's just an excuse, if this is the new norm then just say "our dining room is not reopening (different than closed due to covid) please enjoy our drive thru and delivery services" maybe restrictions have not lifted in some area, maybe they have plenty of business and less overhead? --172.58.xxx.xxx

Brad, my friend....time to up your grill game to the wonderful world of charcoal. Not the little brickquettes made of sawdust and dead bugs...the actual lump charcoal one uses in kettle or kamado style grills/smokers.

I made a pork shoulder last weekend with dry rub seasoning on the smoker for 8 hours. Falling apart tender and tasted like something you'd get at a nice BBQ restaurant...for $2/lbs plus about $2 worth of charcoal. Throw it on the grill, stick a probe in it, and forget about it for hours. So easy!

I picked up 80 lbs of charcoal for the season. Keeping a stock on hand. You can buy real oak charcoal at Wally World in a 30 lbs bag for $14. "Cheap," flavorful cooking!

I say "cheap" because a good kamado style ceramic grill will run you about $700, but after that it's affordable and amazing. I've made everything from veggies, to burgers, brats, pork, ribs, steaks, etc. The flavor is incredible and well worth it.

Can't help you with the pool. Buddy up with someone who has one and bring the beverages and snacks.

Last week I ordered a new LazyBoy sofa. Earliest it will be here is September 30. More than likely longer. When asked, they could not put a number to "more than likely". REason for such a delay? Covid. Last time I ordered a recliner it took less than a week. --72.70.xxx.xxx

SID,

Ahh yes! I do miss that rustic flavor.

Your reply reminds me of a King of the Hill episode where Hank Hill, who's profession is selling propane, attends a backyard barbecue were the hamburgers were cooked with charcoal. He said it was the best tasting burger he had ever had in his life.

J, they got everyone to pay it. Why lower it? Just like groceries. I don’t see those ever going back down either. As soon as the grocery prices start to hurt the current administration’s voter base during an election year, they will throw more money at it. Probably give out more food stamp benefits. Those people don’t care about lumber prices so no need for him to worry about that . --68.191.xx.xx

I had a small victory the other day, on jacked up prices...I broke a small window in the bathroom of the rental by accident while i was regrouting. One pane of glass about 1 X 2 in size needed to be replaced.

I called a place and they wanted $200 to come out and fix the glass...when I challenged her on the price she gave me a line about how the glass manufacturers were charging them so much for sheets of glass...I knew the real cost was coming out to my rental to do the work, not the glass price, so I don't know why she bothered lying.

Anyway, I already had the window balances removed because they were broken so I just took out the sash and covered the window temporarily with plastic and took it to a glass shop. They replaced the pane for $39. --72.188.xxx.xxx
