So I just caught the tail end of a radio show that was saying a family of four was getting 8K from the good ole government. The station was fading out and another station bled in so I couldn't hear much more. Is this possible? Anyone heard of this?

Not sure where that came from, but the next round of "stimulus" is for families with kids. $300 per kid per month under age 6; $250 per kid per month above 6 up to 18. Then a token amount for college age kids. Starts in July and runs thru December. Part of a "child tax credit" that they are paying out for half a year.
Supposedly one young kid is "worth" $3,600, so if you have two that's $7,200....not quite $8K but getting close.

Btw, our POTUS wants to extend this vast gimme....err, I mean "stimulus" thru 2025, which is also in the article. Making people just a tad more "grateful" to their Govt during the upcoming election cycles.

My brother was telling me each of his kids got FULL checks ... even though none file taxes. I think this was a Gov'ment glitch. My kids did not get checks.
