Allure over top of VCT? (by del [MD]) Posted on: May 4, 2021 7:24 PM Message:
I have a C/D grade townhouse I want to sell. The house is built on a concrete slab and I laid VCT over the concrete on the first floor. Fast forward 20 years and the VCT looks rough, pebbly and kind of industrial. OK for a hard use rental but not attractive. Can I lay Allure or something similar over top of the VCT?
I am not really concerned about long term durability since I want to sell. I just want to make it attractive.
Thank you in advance for any advice

As long as the VCT is securely attached, I don't see any reason to remove it - new floor right over it.
Allure is nice, but if you just want to make it look good on the cheap, there are other click laminate options that are much more affordable. --68.229.xxx.xxx |

del,
I would use crack filler on the lines between the tiles. Over time those lines will show thru the wood look Allure AND is a quick task.
I am using Khaki Driftwood and buyers LOVE it.
OR use the bulkier ceramic tile look Allure and not worry about crack filler.

I'd say allure is too thin for that. Every pit and lump will telegraph thru very Quickly. A thicker click flooring with the pad attached will do. Or the grip strip tile one is stiffer, as Brad suggests. --24.194.xxx.xxx |

Last VCT floor I refinished was with floor sander and 100 grit screen paper .... followed up with buffer and floor polish.
Came out amazing ... and cheap (since I had the materials) --76.119.xxx.xxx |
