Renter trashes Las Vegas house on way out, property managers say its a pandemic trend (His free ride ended)

Fox 5 Vegas ^ | 5/4/2021 | Drew Andre

" LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -- A home near Jones Boulevard and Hacienda Avenue sits vacant. Inside, there is trash on the ground, house fixtures ripped out, profanity scribbled on walls and cigarette butts in the toilet.

"It gives me a knot in my stomach. I don't even want to see what it looks like," homeowner Dawna Priest said.

Priest purchased the home in 1998. Since 2004, she has rented it out.

For the last five years, the same renter has lived in the home. Priest said pre-pandemic she never had any issues with the tenant. Then, last March they stopped paying rent. Rental assistance finally arrived through the CARES Act Housing Assistance Program (CHAP) in December.

However, in the New Year, the same problem persisted. Priest said she was willing to work with the renter, but there was no communication. Struggling financially and unable to evict under the moratorium, Priest decided she would sell.

Priest, who lives in Virginia, planned on retiring in the home one day.

The renter refused to leave. The landlord said she finally filed an unlawful detainer and the renter moved out last month. On their way out, the tenant left the house trashed. They even moved the refrigerator so it blocked the staircase half way up.

"Most of our move outs have been the worst we've ever seen, NARPM Southern Nevada President Joshua Campa said . . .

"Once you negate one aspect of the contract, the tenant thinks its free game. They're like, we don't have to listen to any of the other rules anymore," Campa said . . . "

Be hilarious if some LLs found the politicians who have houses and offered them a lot of money to move in then stopped paying and trashed their houses once they became tenants . . . sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. Think the mayor of Los Angeles is renting out a house . . . and he supports the moratorium. --201.140.xxx.xx

I caught my x-tenants kids, with their gang, tagging the rental. The police and the children's parents wouldn't do thing. So a few years later I invested in some spray paint and returned the favor. Aspiring want-a-be tag artist were glad to use the x-tenants vehicles as their canvas. --47.155.xx.xxx

Robert, that's classic. I've often thought how funny it would be after a night of destroying businesses, if protesters would come home to find their homes trashed and windows broken. I'd pay to see that. --108.69.xxx.xxx

Robert J - LOVE IT!!

W,

I agree with the LL in the article. It's like all rules were gone - a free for all.

We were able to evict a few Moratorium Deadbeats. Their judgments are for $6000-7000 each mostly due to junk, trash, neglect.

Miss information is provided by the government supported extreme left wing tenancy advocate groups where here the chairs actually own their houses due to the generous government funding. One time when in the province of Ontario when they voted out the extreme left wing Socialist Democratic government then a progressive Conservative government was voted in with a majority went down to housing ministers then ask is the provincial funding these extreme left wing tenancy advocate groups where a few months all those nutcases were cut off where some cities continued to support them. One nut case sold his house in Ottawa the nations capital then moved to Toronto to buy another house. It was like over night that many had to get a real job where the free for all was cut off completely. Supposed they moved some of the nice tenants then told to provide free utilities along when they were evicted the houses they own were completely trashed out. In the province of Ontario it is illegal to charge a cleaning, damage or pet deposit where trashing out is open season. Tenants are the losers here where everyone has to pay higher rent to cover the costs of repairs and cleaning. Now vacancy rates are at zero or one per cent on and off where tenants have to pay higher rent. No one with credit score below the seven hundreds or they walk. Unpaid utilities are immediately disqualified. --99.236.xxx.xxx

Yup, a pandemic trend for sure and total free for all. My empathy as I have endured similar destructive behavior recently from evicted T. It took 4 dump trucks to remove all the trash, broken furniture and fixtures. My former T currently has a warrant for his arrest for alleged domestic violence. --172.56.xx.xxx

Sad for sure. So many aid offices where people can get help, up to and including stimulus checks and unemployment...but for some reason all they hear is "eviction moratorium". --99.92.xxx.xxx
