I have one of those daily desk calendars and this year's theme is Life Hacks.

It sometime takes me a couple of days to get caught up with the calendar as it is in a store front office that I visit twice a week to do some admin tasks. So the following was published on 29 April 2021:

"Moving out of an apartment or rental house? Ask your landlord to fix anything that's broken before telling them you're moving. They are often legally required to make repairs, and then, when you move out out, they won't be able to take it out of your security deposit"

While they may get their deposit back, they'll be fined for damages plus you'll collect rent while fixing up the rental at same time. Maybe a landlord wrote "Life Hacks." --108.69.xxx.xxx

Nonsensical. Landlords are responsible for maintenance from normal wear and tear. Can't hit a former tenant's security deposit for it, and can't charge current tenant. Tenants are responsible for damages from abuse, whether the repairs are done while occupying or after. The advice that landlords are legally responsible to make all repairs at their own expense while the tenant is still there is just plain wrong. --73.141.xxx.xx

When something gets damaged by a tenant through stupidity or whatever, I fix it and say not a word about it to them. I save the bill and take it out of their deposit even if it happened a few years before. Example: tenant bashed a thermostat on move in. I fixed it, saved the bill and took it out of their security. No problem. So with this hack information they might call to have a door fixed that they kicked in. So I fixed it. Was a hollow core and had been there since 1994 probably. Did not save the bill then realized they broke the door but putting one of those hangers over the top that doesn't allow a door to close easily and put heavy things on it. And then they told me they were leaving because they had a chance to buy a house, a couple months. Too bad I didn't save that bill. It was a toss up as to did they break it or was it just not good quality to begin with. --108.24.xx.xx
