6man,
Paperwork from a vet does not tell me one thing about the animal's behavior in my rental.
Even vicious pitbulls can have all their shots.
Meeting the animal and checking the home is the ONLY way to know.
Ask you local animal control officer if your community has requirements on rabies, etc.

We just require the vet's name and contact info...this allows us to verify the breed in case they try to say their Chow-Chow is a Poodle. But meeting the animal is key...before approval of the app. If friendly, verify it is declawed by picking it up...otherwise have them show you. Some people declaw only two paws so the cat can defend itself...usually an outdoor cat. --99.92.xxx.xxx |

Thank you all for the replies.
This is out of state.
The cat is only declawed on two paws. Not sure which two. --73.120.xx.xxx |

I require the name and contact information for the vet, a copy of the rabies vaccination certificate, and a spay certificate for the females (the males, I just look when the dog is having its interview.)
Reputable vets will not give out patient information over the phone, but I want the tenant to at least know what vet they use.
Incidentally, the vet neither knows nor cares what breed the dog is. He just writes down whatever the owner tells him the breed is. --76.178.xxx.xxx |

My area requires annual vaccination so photo id is on everything nowadays and if not accurate with what the phone pictures show it is a fraud - NEXT BATTER. --76.188.xxx.xxx |

Cats that are declawed have them removed from their front paws, FYI. Kind of a barbaric practice - removes essentially the last joint of each "finger" - look at your hands and see how taking the last joint would remove the fingernail.
This makes the cats have to be kept indoors, as they are pretty defenseless without front claws --96.245.xx.xx |

I know some people believe cats should never be let outdoors anyway because they kill birds...that's true but they also kill mice, rats, voles and moles. --50.82.xxx.xxx |
