The dumpster company who we contracted with for our 4-unit has dropped off the face of the earth. Word has it that the owner passed away about a year ago and his son took over the business. Service since then has been...spotty. Son is not answering phone calls or texts, and it's been 3 weeks since the dumpster has been emptied. I'm hearing the same thing from other customers--he'll pick up for a couple of weeks, then disappear for a couple of weeks. I've found a new trash hauler, but I need the first dumpster removed to make room for the new one.

The city and police department tell me that it's a civil matter and to consult a lawyer. I already talked to the new company about just rolling it out into the street for me, and they won't touch it. Do you have any outside-the-box ideas for getting rid of the dumpster?

Contact a towing company to come with one of their ramp bed tow trucks. Have the dumpster hauled to the almost defunct trash company. It will probably cost about $100.00 but then you can move on.

Attorneys cost more. --184.57.xxx.xx

Exactly what Sid said or buy a dumpster company. A lot of money in that business. --70.44.xxx.xx

I would read my contract first. I'm guessing there is an answer in there. Depending what that says, send a certified letter to the company with a very short time frame to remove it. If no response, I'd try to give it away. No idea how to pick up a full dumpster unless you have a trash truck. --72.70.xxx.xx

Ask the dumpster company if you can use the existing dumpster where a fresh coat of paint then if the dumpster company agree that is easier for everyone. Dumpsters cost money where the dumpster company will have less cost. Other option is cut up existing dumpster then take to metal recycling place. --99.236.xxx.xxx

Certified letter to the company with a firm deadline or disposal by management.

I'm guessing space is limited, plus people will continue to fill it.

How big is this dumpster? I would deliver it to the company. Pick up truck size or tow truck ($50).

NE mentioned money in the dumpster business. I’ve been looking at a few opportunities recently and can’t see how you make money starting out unless your answering the phone, driving, and you clone yourself as the second driver working 12 hour days. $500 dumpster rental, $245 tip fees, labor, fuel, insurance, lot rent, marketing, seo, debt service, etc. The capital investment is large...2 new kenworth trucks ($380k) to haul the 20/30 yds, a small axle truck for 10/15 yds ($90k), and 75 dumpsters ($375k), your debt burden is heavy. --50.96.xxx.xxx

To protect yourself, read your trash contract! I had the same issue with a single 3 yard dumpster at an apartment building in the City. Residents would fill it up by the middle of the pick up period and I'd request an extra pick-up. The company was just sold and they were weeks behind. So when they guy came to put the bin in the front of the building for pick-up, and it was way over the top. He would just leave the dumpster there.

So I wrote a letter to the trash company and sent it 1st class mail and certified with a tracking number. I also left messages.

Then I switched over services. The dumpster was never picked up. So it got placed in front of the Fire Hydrant, ticked and hauled away by the City. --47.155.xx.xxx

Bill 75 dumpsters seems like a lot, most dumpster companies around here i bet dont have any more than 15-20 with a 1 man show.I do business with probably the biggest guy around,he has the best prices and best customer service, several drivers, ladies in the office etc.I bet he has that many or more,i know where he stores empty dumpsters in a few locations and have seen 50 at a time sitting in the winter --72.231.xxx.xxx

Dumpsters are heavy where worth something in scrap metal. If dumpster is not rusted out then ask dumpster company if could use existing dumpster. Dumpsters easily last 10 to 20 years depending on conditions where it is expensive to buy a new dumpster. A fresh cost of paint along with removing surface rust then good to go. Recycling is the future where only what is not recycled is put in dumpster. --99.236.xxx.xxx

Why we have very few family dynasties in the USA. Each generation gets lazier and lazier and parents don't tech their children how to maintain the empire. Instead, they overindulge and pamper their kids, leaving them incapable of running a business. --76.178.xxx.xxx
