I have gotten a notice from my local Rental Housing office (annual rental housing inspection) to repair rakeboard on a townhouse. Many years ago I had all the exterior wood on my townhouses wrapped in aluminum to avoid the frequent repainting and replacement of exterior wood.
Fast forward 20+ years and some of the aluminum has blown off the rackboard just under the roof on the side of a corner townhouse.
My question is can i just remove the rest of the aluminum from the rakeboard and replace it with a composite maintenance free wood type material? Is this a job a handyman can do, or who should I hire for this? Because they have to get on a ladder I am hiring someone licensed. Thoughts?

I would just have the missing aluminum replaced,you need someone who has and can operate an aluminum brake so a handyman should be able to do it,you dont need anyone licensed but my concern would be someone to be covered if they fell and got hurt --72.231.xxx.xxx |

I had a piece of aluminum flapping this fall. A handyman/contractor bent and installed a new piece of aluminum. The wood underneath was in good shape. He was insured since it was ladder work up high. --75.67.xxx.xxx |

I doubt that very many handymen have a brake for bending coil stock. Someone who installs vinyl / aluminum siding or installs replacement windows should either own or have access to a brake. Some wholesale siding places have brakes at their warehouse for their customers to use. --71.184.xxx.xx |

Some jurisdictions will not allow to work off a ladder where will a scaffold or sky jack. Try to contact a few different siding contractors where repair will always cost less then entire replacement. --99.236.xxx.xxx |

Handyman can rent a brake. I would replace the metal. It may not matter in your case, but don't use treated wood where it will be wrapped with metal...as there will be a chemical reaction and may cause either discoloration of the metal or advanced rotting of the wood. --99.92.xxx.xxx |

Lowes sells pre-formed fascia aluminum. 6” wide with a 1” lip, 8-10 feet long. We use it a lot for such repairs or odd spots.
Knowing you I suggest contacting a windows/siding contractor. Probably a 1 hour job but you’ll have to pay a premium price to get their attention during this nice weather.
THIS is where who you know pays off. Thru your local assoc, a general contractor, myWindow World rep...
My call on Monday is to some insurance restoration people like ServPro or ServiceMaster because everyone else is busy. They are used to odd repair work on older homes.

PS the Lowes material - no brake needed. Must tin snips, a ladder, and some aluminum nails. Factory finished in white.
