Once all the hedge funds own the housing they will lobby to change the rules to be favorable to them. In the meantime they are picking the low hanging fruit. --172.58.xxx.xx |

Pensions have to invest their money into something so they can generate enough cash flow to pay out benefits for 20+ years. Housing is generally a stable source of good cash flow. Traditional "safe" investments with decent returns like CDs are no longer viable due to pitiful interest rates, and pensions aren't usually willing or able to risk returns in the stock market.
Wouldn't you love to be a real estate agent and have a pension fund call you up? "Hi there, Agent Bill, this is XYZ Corp, and we have $1 billion we need help investing in real estate...."
