Below is a link to Jeff of Home RenoVision DIY segment on hang & taping drywall. He does a nice job explaining how to DIY in an easy to understand manner. Caution it's a long video so you might want to skip over some parts.

Thanks Steve. I've watched a couple tile videos by Jeff in the past. He is definitely one of the better people out there doing this. --72.188.xxx.xxx |

It's always beneficial to learn other peoples techniques.
As a contractor I learned not to put too much mud over the seams to reduce sanding. And talking about sanding I use a electric circular drywall sander with a vacuum hook-up. It's on a long stick and I can walk around a room doing walls and ceilings without a ladder.
I did an experiment. I could sand the seams in a 4 bedroom house in an hour with NO DUST because I had my HEPA vacuum with several filters. Otherwise it would have taken all day..... --47.155.xx.xxx |

There is another person who is good who goes by the handle "Vancouver Carpenter". I learned from watching his vids how to do inside corners for the bathroom I was working on, and they came out very well for someone who'd never done them before. Just followed his advice. --72.188.xxx.xxx |

Good info. I wish many years ago I would have been able to watch videos like this. It took me years to learn about the pros and cons of "hot mud" versus premixed, when to use each, etc. Walking up to the drywall section can be overwhelming if you don't know which product you need. --99.92.xxx.xxx |

Hoosier agree, it was overwhelming for me for a while. I finally have a grip on it. It was also confusing because people on drywall forums would use slang like "Green Top", "AP", "hot mud" etc etc. I had no idea what they were talking about at first. --72.188.xxx.xxx |

J, I hired a contractor to come in and repair wall damage I created when making plumbing repairs.
Saturday and Sunday:
All in wall galvanized plumbing replaced in first and second floors. All work was reverse plumbed with copper and the bedroom walls being opened. I did not want to repair tiled walls in the bathrooms.
Monday:
Contractor comes in and hot muds the three layers to finish the walls and texture the finish. That night after work, I prime and paint the walls.
Hot mud is the bomb. I saved three or maybe four days of aggravation. Those tenants were amazed on the turnaround. They're still there too.

Yeah Jim I always use hot mud now, except for the final coat I use pre-mixed. --72.188.xxx.xxx |
