Two weeks ago I received a call from property manager that police called and reported in that one of our tenants committed suicide. Such sad and shocking news. Whenever we briefly dealt with the tenant she was pleasant, cooperative and appreciative. The rent was always paid. Only in her twenties- she actually shot herself! I just don’t get it. Her live in boyfriend was not so nice- snarky, sarcastic etc. He had to be stressful to live with. Boyfriend turned in the keys- family did not want what was left inside so the hauling was done and turnover is almost complete. Im just left thinking about another young life gone. Goes to show that we don’t always know what’s really going on with some people behind the smile. I wish that somebody could have convinced her that there was a better way to see things and that life could improve for her. --160.3.xx.xxx

Maybe it was not suicide. I hope someone makes sure and that boyfriend is not related to someone important so is getting a pass. Does she have relatives you can contact? --108.24.xx.xx

Alley- I had wondered the very same thing. Police investigated and he must of had an alibi. --160.3.xx.xxx

Charge accordingly. I had a tenant hang them self a few years ago in a local pavilion at a baseball park. About two weeks prior to that, I was cutting the grass and ran over their dogs lead with the lawnmower and bought them a new one to replace it. I don't know what he used, but to this day it haunts that it may have been that dog run that I bought for them. --174.197.xxx.xxx

Thank you. I suppose her relatives would say something if they thought it was not suicide. --108.24.xx.xx

Reprogramming by a professional, is hard to ask for,

and even harder to be willing to let go / change.

A lot of times it's the same old

crap / thoughts rolling around in the head.

Near UCLA, University of Los Angeles located in Westwood, was a high rise high-end senor living community. When an occupant outlived their savings and social security wasn't enough to pay the bills, they would jump out of a window instead of being shipped to a State run old-folks home or moving in with their kids, grandkids and great grand kids. --47.155.xx.xxx

A.R.,

So sad. What a waste.

Yes, be sure to charge fully for the clean up.

My lease is clear: the new res lists 4 Emergency Contacts, designating one IN CASE OF DEATH, INCAPACITATION, OR INCARCERATION, signed permission to allow them to handle the personal property.

Suicide stats are up for Millenials and GenX. The pandemic is not helping.

Robert CA and others who face adult care vs nursing home. Here's my advice.

When your looking for adult care-- where you pay and have money-- pick a place that also offers nursing home service. The reason is this-- when you need to transfer from adult care to nursing home help they keep you at the facility. They the nursing home will have a bed for you. Once u are in the nursing home and you run out of money they can not make you move. Outta money doesn't mean you have to leave.

So the hint is find a good place in the first place. --99.103.xxx.xxx

Just make sure it's truly end of life care. My dad had beginning Alzheimer's. We specifically looked for a place that would take both Mom & Dad, and where Dad could move to their Memory Care unit when necessary. And that happened. But when his AZ became truly advanced, he got a bit violent and slapped someone. They said they could no longer care for him as they didn't have the staff or skills to handle advanced AZ. No mention of this when we toured the place, signed all the contracts, moved them in (and they lived there two years before this happened.)

We had 48 hours to find him a new place!!! It was either a psychiatric ward or a state nursing home. Luckily (?) my SIL worked for the VA, my dad was a vet, and they were able to get him into an AZ ward at a VA hospital. It was a horrible place, but better than some alternatives. I guess. --50.82.xxx.xxx

Hmm. I like the "out the window" idea. If I ever need to go to a place I will make sure it's high enough. In NJ a person can ask for assisted suicide help if they have six months or less left as per doctor's assessment. And the Ds want to stop medical treatment for people over 75 to make room for Medicare for All. I guess Cuomo got the order. --108.24.xx.xx

Loosing a resident to death it hard but I found dealing with the lose due to suicide even harder. It is our job to provide the correct structure for the family so we can go on about our business. Its not a topic that discussed much, but probably be discussed more --24.154.xx.x
