I hope LLs are not relying on USPS to deliver rent.

They released some stats for 2020:

Average 6 days for first class mail during holiday season and only 38% on time delivery year long.

Gotta love autodraft!

We stopped accepting mail for rent and personal checks YEARS ago.

Talk about slow mail, you have no idea, LOL.

I once got a letter 13, yes, thirteen months after she sent it.

The family had been in my apartment after a flood destroyed their home, until a new one was finished.

The letter from her had asked for another month in the apartment as the new house was going to take longer to finish, than originally thought.

I think that she had told me in person that she needed more time which was good that she told me, since I never got the letter. That would have been a mess, if I wasn't told earlier.

By the time I got the letter, they had been out of my apartment and in their new home for MONTHS.

No idea where the letter had been. A couple people told me it was probably at the bottom of a mail bag. UM. Shouldn't they be checking that? --50.105.xxx.xxx

Even before covid they had problems.

My local postmaster stated that they cant even guarantee that a letter will be postmarked the day if was received. And just the postmark could take 2 or 3 days.

Another city by me. Mailman no longer have to work so all mail delivered that day.

They quite at a certain time. And any mail left over they bring back to the post office and deliver some other day.

Some people just get mail 3 days a week. --73.40.xx.xx

We are trying to get all of our residents on on-line payment; we do have most of them there. However, the ones that still mail payments, a lot of the time the envelopes are not postmarked by USPS.

As we fill vacancies, we insist that they use our on-line system for payment as part of the rental approval process.

Definitely no more USPS mailed payments!

Meanwhile, I mailed some documents to my FIL on Feb 17. It included the form needed for his COVID19 vaccine, since he doesn't do the internet. I had to make his appointment, then print out the reservation and consen form. I mailed it on Feb 17 and his appointment is today, Feb 27. Still not there. Missouri to SW Utah. Sigh,

NE - sorry about your chicks. That stinks. --67.43.xxx.xxx

I hope these replies help LLs take necessary steps to collect rent without involving USPS. There are so many options available which renters actually prefer. Autodraft, ACH, walk in deposit only accounts at the bank, Venmo, Zelle...

People don’t have envelopes, checks, or stamps anymore - only old folks.

(NEVER have them deliver the rent to your house!)

LLs who honor the postmark as the payment date will be waiting for their money and the judge will delay eviction.

Musta been special chicks to order from so far away.

No chicks nearby in farm country?

Check the insurance on the shipment.

My friend sells and ships gourmet popcorn. (Very tasty!) He got $50 for each late shipment.

USPS SUCKS!!!! I just received a package from Va. I am in New Jersey. It took 2.5 weeks when it should have taken only 3 days. Reason for delay????? I could have sent a crippled person with one crutch to get and bring back my package in a fraction of the time it took USPS. Last December they lost one of my packages.they suck.

I have only one, long-term tenant who wants to pay by check. He is also fond of dropping it off on rent day at the post office where I have a box. If he drops it in the slot for that town, it gets hand cancelled and immediately placed into my box. I'll get the next tenant onto Zelle first thing, though.

We shipped something via USPS that we sold on eBay on Dec. 12th, going to a large town in central PA. It was never scanned into the system; then the tracking turned it up on Jan 6 - in Idaho. It was finally delivered on 1/15. I could have handed it to a family member from western PA who was here on 12/31 weekend, and it would have been hand delivered by that member on the return trip on 1/2. Sheesh. --96.245.xx.xx

The only things I use USPS for anymore is Certified Mail for Security Deposit statements. That seems to still have a 2-3 days turnaround time.

Most residents now use ACH. Those who don't deliver it in person to our bank.

"I mailed the rent last week...." "The post office must have lost my rent payment...." Haven't heard those excuses in a loooooong time! --107.216.xxx.xxx

I am pretty impressed with ow good the US Postal Service is for delivering first lass mail on time. We have ordered some goods from China, and I have found delivery times to be very reasonable. I ordered a two volume set of law books, Enforcing Judgments, from CA, "Media Rates", and they were delivered in just a few days.

I am sorry about NE's chicks, but I am amazed at how well the Post Office really works! For something like 50 cents per envelope.
